Summary

Every year, six million companies and more than 100,000 products are launched. They all need an awesome name, but many (such as Xobni, Svbtle, and Doostang) look like the results of a drunken Scrabble game. In this entertaining and engaging book, ace naming consultant Alexandra Watkins explains how anyone - even noncreative types - can create memorable and buzz-worthy brand names. No degree in linguistics required. The heart of the book is Watkins's proven SMILE and SCRATCH Test - two acronyms for what makes or breaks a name. She also provides up-to-date advice, like how to make sure that Siri spells your name correctly and how to nab an available domain name. And you'll see dozens of examples - the good, the bad, and the "so bad she gave them an award". Alexandra Watkins is not afraid to name names.

Good book but monotone performance

As I said in the title, this is a very informative book but unfortunately pretty boring to listen to.

Great Book But

I think you really need to have the book in print to access the forms in the last few chapters.

Required reading for anyone trying to name a business or product.

Just finished reading "Hello My Name Is Awesome - How to create brand names that stick" by Alexandra Watkins of naming & branding firm Eat My Words. It's a quick read but full of actionable advice on naming a company or product. From "GoogleStorming" to trademark research, Alexandra explains her techniques with real-world examples of naming successes and missteps. If you have anything to do with naming a business, side-gig, product, etc. I highly recommend reading it.

Book could also be called One Woman's Opinion

Book entirely relied on the Author's opinion to make its case. So her rules often felt ambiguious and her examples contradictory. Despite that there is some wisdom sprinkled throughout, and felt her chapter on her brainstorming technique was very strong.

Recommend

It’s short and to the point
Appreciated the author offering a pov from her lens of how she came up with a name for a client. It was more than just use google and a dictionary method. There’s some fluff but defiantly the brainstorm chapter that’s really worth it the investment.

Very well written and informative.

Only issue with the book for me was the mess to understand badly spelled names in an audio book.
