Summary

"A damned fine tale." (David Farland, New York Times best-selling author)

Demons don't always hide in the dark.

Prison psychologist Eva Ross has dealt with her share of sinners. The corrupt, the insane; their minds were all hers to unlock. But when those around her start to show the same characteristics, she is forced to turn to a stranger for help.

Together with the mysterious Madden Scott, she enters a new reality. As the world around her shifts, secrets barely hidden under the surface are revealed.

In an adventure that takes them through nightmares and across continents, Eva and Madden enter the shadowy world of Anges de la Resurrection des Chevaliers: The last barrier between earth...and what lies beneath.

Great listen. Recommend

Loved the main characters, very fast paced. I can’t believe I listened to this so quickly.
This is a 3 part series, off to hunt for the next one.
Great piece of writing.

Interesting book to listen to.

Took me a while to get into this book. Some parts are slightly confusing but it does get so much better.
The narrator done brilliantly to bring the characters to life. I would recommend this book to anyone that enjoys books about demons.

stay in the light

The narration of Matthew Crow is perfect, he brings out the suspense, horror and action. He keeps your ears demanding more.

Doctor Eva Ross, days goes from interviewing a prisoner, who loves the macabre to her going home and finding her husband had gone quite insane, then finding herself in the arms of Madden Scott, a man with a very strange ability to mess with Eva’s mind,
Throw in demons and portals, an array of unique and memorable characters, each of whom will grow on you as they race against time from one end of the world to the other. With the connection to Hell that Eva and Madden have. This is one roll Coster ride of a book with nerve-pounding suspense at every page.

Interesting story

I found the story quite interesting but rather confusing, I felt that the narrator may have been the cause of this confusion as Mr Crow's narration was quite stilted in places and rather faster than I could keep track of. Reading the book myself may have resulted in a better experience.

The story starts off with Eva having a normal day at the psychiatric hospital where she works, however, upon her return home, she finds her husband has lost his mind and she has to flee, things get totally bizarre from this point onwards and Eva teams up with Maddon (from the prologue) it's all quite entertaining but it gets more and more confusing as Eva and Maddon travel further and further afield in their attempts to escape the mad people chasing them who are, in fact, demonically posessed rather than simply insane.

Hell on Earth!

This was an interesting take on the apocalypse, very different from other books I've read. I really liked Eva and Madden, but Gideon was truly creepy! I didn't like ARC they reminded me more of a bond villains organisation, I'll see what direction book 2 takes me.

Wonderfully unexpected

I went into this book thinking it would just be a typical UF/PNR but what I got was a rich world building, full characters, carefully thought out story and an interesting pov. Yes, I'm all in now and moving onto book 2 👍
