Summary
An electrifying thriller from the New York Times best-selling author in the Star Trek: The Next Generation universe.
It's 2031. US Air Force fighter jets shoot down an unidentified spacecraft and take its crew into custody. Soon it's learned that the ship is one of several dispatched across space by an alien species, the Eizand, to search for a new home before their own world becomes uninhabitable. Fearing extraterrestrial invasion, government and military agencies that for more than 80 years have operated in secret swing into action, charged with protecting humanity no matter the cost....
It's 2386. Continuing their exploration of the Odyssean Pass, Captain Jean-Luc Picard and the crew of the starship Enterprise discover what they at first believe is a previously uncharted world, with a civilization still recovering from the effects of global nuclear war. An astonishing priority message from Starfleet Command warns that there's more to this planet than meets the eye, and Picard soon realizes that the mysteries of this world may well weave through centuries of undisclosed human history....

Very good however it's set mainly in the past...
I enjoyed this book however it is mainly set in the past (our very near future). In was expecting more in the 2300s buy spent most ofnthe book learning about 2000s era of star trek. Don't let this put you off but be prepared for a story line set mostly In the 2030s

stsr fluff
Nice little book, though the inclusion of Gary Seven would have good- always one of the better incidental TOS characters. The story was intriguing but probably a bit too drawn out. Well read and well voiced.

Not much TNG in this TNG story
This was quite an odd TNG novel, as it spends about 75% of the time in the 21st century to provide the back story, and then Picard and Worf are pretty much the only TNG characters to feature in the few fleeting moments it does return to Star Trek time. Ok Sci Fi story but it should either have provided snippets of the back story to focus on the characters we love, or been a generic sci fi novel without Star Trek characters.

Hearts and mind
This book started very well. Loved the premise. But I found at the end of the main story it was a little rushed. But I still enjoyed it. Well worth a listen

Much better than Ward's usual stuff
I really enjoyed this one from beginning to end. Dayton Ward can get very boring very fast but he kept up with this story quite well. I'm quite hard on Ward as an author so I thought I should commend him on a solid book. I'd heartily recommend it.

A good time
I prefer lengthy audio books. So, was glad to find one 11 hours plus. The story is good and the narrator makes a decent attempt at doing the imitations of the main characters we know from the show. I did find it initially distracting that the story flits between the past and present so regularly. Wish we could have learnt more about the Aegis too.

Brilliant Performance!
The narrator does a great job although the story fizzles out a bit toward its conclusion. Still very enjoyable, however.

I enjoyed this story, lots of intrigue and many different timelines with interesting characters from many different civilisations and organisations

Good Listening
I am not usually a fan of time travelling in star trek, but this story was very informative and kept me glued to listening to the story that was very interesting even with all the jumping back and forth. I Finnished the book in 2 days, it was that good. Thankyou for another good read.
