Summary
An Amazon Charts and #1 Wall Street Journal bestselling series.
They’re hunting a killer so silent, so invisible, that his unspeakable crimes are the only proof he exists.
A car submerged in a remote pond. The bodies of two girls strapped into their seats. The mystery of their mother, vanished without a trace, leads Gwen Proctor and Kezia Claremont into dangerous territory.
On the surface, Gwen’s life is good - two children approaching adulthood, a committed partner, and a harrowing past dead and gone. But that past is attracting the attention of someone invisible...and unstoppable. Trouble’s just beginning. So is the body count in this backwoods Tennessee town.
As threats mount and Gwen’s hunted by an enemy who pulls all the strings, Kezia has her back. But working to solve these vicious and unreasonable crimes will expose them both to a killer they can’t for the life of them see coming.

Kezia, unbearable voice.
Not finished this book yet. Love the series been great and hope this is not the last one. But I'm writing this review early because kezia's voice is terrible! It's spoilt her character so much. It's sounds ridiculous and creepy. It's spoiling this audible alot for me. All the other voices are brilliant. Very disappointed with that, all I want to do is skip her chapters.

better read it ...

unfortunately I could not easily follow up the narration of Ms Tova Ott . especially in the first two thirds of the book I had to slow the speed down which was really doing damage to the voice. What a pitty.
But since I knew this was the end of the Gina/Gwen story I stood by until the end . And I really liked Rachel Caines excellency of her gripping story telling once more. Thank you.

I can only hope there are many more to come!!!!
Oh what a twisted story this is! HEARTBREAK BAY is the fifth book in the Stillhouse Lake series. This book can easily be listened to as a standalone. The author does a great job weaving in the history of the characters that anyone can pick up any one of the books in this series and not feel lost
In this book someone who knows the protagonist’s past has decided that she has gotten away with murder. He’s not opposed to hurting her friends and family to make her pay. He’s done it before with others. He just doesn’t realize who he’s set his sights on this time. Some will get hurt and others will die but not necessarily by his own hands.
The three narrators work very well together. The transitions from one to another is done very smoothly.
This book has my HIGHEST RECOMMENDATION.

Bittersweet endings
A great ending to the Stillhouse Lake series but also bittersweet knowing that Rachel is not here to celebrate with us because she passed away soon after finishing this book.
Fabulous narration by, Emily Sutton-Smith , Dan John Miller & Tovah Ott who voice Gwen, Sam and Kezia all three gave great performances!
Gwen once again finds herself in trouble and she has to trust the people around her! This was a great twisty story and when the reveal came whoo boy we were off the the races and this story didn't let up again until the end! I did feel like we got some closure on Gwens story and as much as I have loved this series I don't want another author stepping in to write any more I would rather just leave Gwen, Sam, Lanny and Connor and of course Kezia and Javier to live out their lives in peace and put all the murders behind them! I want to think things got better for everyone after this one last case!
4 stars

Rachel Caine's final book
Author Rachel Caine died soon after finishing HEARTBREAK BAY. Like the other novels in the series it has a solid story line along with intense suspense. Emily Sutton-Smith and Dan John Miller do a solid job of narrating as Gwen and Sam. Tovah Ott as Kezia totally screws up her supposed accent and is nothing short of horrid - I have never heard a worse job narrating than Tovah Ott does with this book. I listened to some samples of other books she has narrated and she has a pleasant voice.

One of the better in the series
This was a good finale to the series (unfortunately the author passed away last year). I felt some closure to the story, which I was hoping for because I was afraid that these books would continue to get more and more outlandish. I highly recommend this series, it's a fun read and definitely kept my attention. This could be a stand alone book, but I would suggest reading The Stillhouse Lake series in order.

A Bittersweet, Blockbuster Ending to the Series
It’s not often I listen to a first-person/present-tense story and find myself swept away. Usually the POV and tense intrude and interrupt my enjoyment, though I don’t penalise a book or author for my personal preferences. Not so with this series. I’m always sucked in by Caine’s writing, and book five was no exception.
These characters are so compelling to me because they’re everyday people who are living extraordinary lives. It sounds cliché, but it’s true. The horrors the heroes have suffered make most people’s problems seem mundane. And the villains in these stories are truly vile.
In this book, there are two mysteries running concurrently—who killed two young girls near Stillhouse Lake and who is harassing Gwen Proctor’s family. But it’s never that simple. As the investigation continues, more crimes are unearthed, more bodies are found, and Gwen’s family is in more danger than ever.
While I did fit the pieces of the puzzle together before the reveal, I still raced to the climax to see how it all ended. The author did an excellent job of tying up all the loose threads while still leaving the series open enough to continue. Sadly, fans know that won’t be happening, and if they didn’t, they only had to read her heart-wrenching author’s note to learn this was the final installment.
It’s with a heavy heart that I give this book five bittersweet stars. RIP Rachel Caine author extraordinaire you will be so missed by your thousands of fans.

Not a review of the story, but for narration
This is some of the worst narration I've heard in my any of my 700 audible titles. If I wrote what I wanted to and provide a realistic and honest assessment, Audible would probably cancel my account. Don't waste your money. Demand better for the hard earned dollars you use to purchase entertainment. All of the previous installments in this series were up excellent. I doubt the author has listened to how a few of her characters were portrayed. It was insulting.

Okay, Rachel Caine- you pushed me too far and I don't think I will be back for another. This series showed such promise, but the stories have becone predictable, the writing is just bad in many parts, and the characters have become more one dimensional with each book.
