About this listen
Number-One New Release in Romance
The number-one New York Times best-selling author of Verity and It Ends With Us delivers another breathtaking novel with a magnetic suspense that will keep you glued to your device.
"This book deserves a whole galaxy of stars, but alas, five is all I can give." (Shades of Rebecca)
Life and a dismal last name are the only two things Beyah's parents ever gave her. After carving her path all on her own, Beyah is well on her way to bigger and better things, thanks to no one but herself. With only two short months separating her from the future she's built and the past she desperately wants to leave behind, an unexpected death leaves Beyah with no place to go during the interim.
Forced to reach out to her last resort, Beyah has to spend the remainder of her summer on a peninsula in Texas with a father she barely knows. Beyah's plan is to keep her head down and let the summer slip by seamlessly, but her new neighbor Samson throws a wrench in that plan.
Samson and Beyah have nothing in common on the surface.
She comes from a life of poverty and neglect; he comes from a family of wealth and privilege. But one thing they do have in common is that they're both drawn to sad things. Which means they're drawn to each other.
Beyah and Samson agree to stay in the shallow end of a summer fling. What Beyah doesn't realize is that a rip current is coming, and it's about to drag her heart out to sea.
©2020 Colleen Hoover (P)2020 Audible, Inc.This book addresses so many hard and aching topics in this world. I was consumed by it.
Audible's narration is pretty awesome too.
Fav quote 1: "He's right. We are alike, but only in the saddest ways"
Fav quote 2:
- "Samson tilts his head, looking at me with complete candor. “Don’t worry. Hearts don’t have bones. They can’t actually break.”
- “If there’s nothing inside a heart that can break, why does it feel like mine is going to snap in half when it’s time for me to move next month? Does your heart not feel like that?”
- Samson’s eyes scroll over my face for a moment. “Yeah,” he whispers. “It does. Maybe we both grew heart bones.”
Fav quote 3: "I am still made of steel. Come at me, world. You can’t damage the impermeable"
Fav quote 4: “Because when a man says I’m going home, he should be heading for the sea.”
Fav quote 5: "Look at us. Two lonely kids who slipped through all the cracks, but then climbed right back up to the top of the world."

Sobbed 😢

The narration dragged a little, which added to the feeling of ennui the story evoked. Nothing actually wrong with the narration, but the tone of delivery had my mouth turning down, so it gave the whole story a sad air, even in the rare good times.
