About this listen

A viscount whose life is governed by rules. A bluestocking who circumvents them. What will break first … his principles or her heart?

Laurence Townsend, Viscount Montgomery, enjoys his well-ordered, structured life. Yet he craves a love match like those of his closest friends. And after encountering a scientifically minded woman at a masquerade, his hope soars … if only he knew her identity.

Beatrix Marbry has two great loves: Laurence Townsend and science. When Bea is faced with an unwanted marriage proposal, her scheme to extract herself goes awry with unexpected consequences. Now everything she’s ever wanted is within her grasp … but for all the wrong reasons.

As the two grow closer, secrets and an impetuous wager could implode their budding relationship. Will their desire to protect each other from the truth bring these two awkward soulmates together or tear them apart?

Laurence & Beatrix (Bea) have both appeared or are mentioned in the earlier books in the Hope clinic series and they well deserved to have their own story.
Bea is facing an unwanted marriage to help her family out of financial difficulties, how she is to get out of this sets the scene. She loves science and enjoys lectures and writing articles for the newspaper how can that continue if she has to marry and besides she has been in love with Laurence for years, unbeknown to him.
Laurence also has a love of science and wants a marriage and family but cant see beyond the path he has set in life. He also can’t forget the woman he met at a masquerade ball the previous year, when they had shared an interesting conversation about science, the trouble is he can’t work out who she is - oh what a blind fool!
This has to be my favourite book in the Hope clinic series. Why? Because our main characters were just meant to be together and we also meet Bea’s cat, the marvellous Catpurrnicus and boy does he know who he likes and those he can’t stand!
The scenes have been brilliantly portrayed by the two narraters, I felt like I was in the room with the book’s characters, as Laurence & Bea find their path to love, with plenty of misunderstandings on the way!
Roll on the next audiobook with the same narrators, as I can’t imagine anyone else reading Trisha’s books now
