Summary

They call him the devil.

When I crash-landed into him on my first day at Loyola Academy, I was sure that couldn’t be true.

He was the most gorgeous man I’d ever seen in real life.

Little did I know he was also the cruelest.

I went from starstruck to stunned the moment his cynical eyes cut through me.

I can’t tell you what it was that made him want to punish me. But from that day forward the brooding recluse of a man made it his goal to torment me.

I want to loathe him, and some days, I do.

But good or bad, nobody’s attention has ever tasted so sweet.

What do you do when you have a hate crush on your bully?

Worse yet, what do you do when he’s also your teacher?

Hate Crush is a full length standalone age gap bully romance with a complete ending.

More than just a bully romance

HATE CRUSH by A. Zavarelli is so much more than just a bully romance. There’s so, SO much going on and so much more to the story than the blurb makes you believe. Yes, you’ve got the forbidden aspect of a teacher / student relationship and you have a yummy age gap – but that’s just the tip of the ice berg. Listing all the tropes included here would spoil the reading fun, so you’ll just have to believe me that it’s SO worth it! So, Mr. Carter … Basically, he is a prick, lol. He hates his job, doesn’t like the teachers and students around him, so each year he picks a student as his “project” whose life at school he makes a living hell. It’s a wayward way for him to somehow relieve his conscience from his past. And what a tragic past he had … no wonder he’s so jaded and broody and broken (and possessive and jealous and deliciously dominant, yum!) … And Stella is his newest project. Stella … she is smart and mature and resilient as all hell (the things she was put through in school … I’m not sure I’d have survived in her stead), but has an unhealthy urge to please everyone, especially seeking approval from a certain teacher, which of course made it much too easy for Sebastian Carter to make her bend however he liked … That passion between these two though … it burned red-hot and set my earbuds on fire, holy hell! They complete each other in every way – now Sebastian just has to come to his senses and realize that too … Which also brings me to the one thing I didn’t love about the story: Yes, they needed one another, but somehow the spark of love never truly ignited, a true deep-seated connection between them never developed. For me, that turning point from bullies to lovers was sadly missing. I’m still going to round up my 3.5 instead of down, because their story – hotness, drama, and storyline in general – still kept me thoroughly engaged and wanting to listen nonstop. A word on the narration: It was my first listen by Stephanie Kay, and I loved her distinct voices for each character. You always knew which point of view you were in and I especially enjoyed the voice she gave Sebastian. If she could tone down her sometimes over the top accentuation a tiny bit, she could become one of my go-to narrators.

Love

I don’t usually read teacher/student books but I love the author’s stories and writing and had to read this one as well. Not sure if this is a truly bully romance because for me it seems more as a very possessive alpha a**hole. What I liked the most was how he challenged her to be better, to stand for herself and not let the others to run over her, to have the courage to say what she wants and likes when she wants and keep her head up because she’s worthy of everything that she’s accomplished. They are steamy together, heck, they are fire together and their banter is just so engaging that you’ll definitely want to read it in one sitting. Nobody’s perfect and most of us are dealing with heartbreak and a past that can’t be forgotten easily but I love how the author is bringing two characters with an age gap that complement each other, both with a past but wishing to find a future in the other person. There’s a scene that I couldn’t get past and that’s why I can’t give five stars but I loved this story overall more than I was expecting and will definitely recommend it.

Ohhh Mr Carter! 🔥🔥🔥

When I first read this book I fell in love with Stella and Sebastian Carter so hard. Listening to it has been refreshing and brought back k all the feels. I was a little disappointed to not have a male narrator as Sebastian’s POV but I fell into sync and really loved it. Ashleigh Zavarelli is one of my favourite authors and her broody alphas as EVERYTHING!!

A 5* NA Romance

I really loved this New Adult student/ teacher forbidden romance. A dysfunctional love story, between two dysfunctional people, Stella and Sebastian are a very complicated couple. Sebastian is quite bitter, a little twisted, and a cold person, while Stella is much more a light but confused and insecure person. These two people, opposites in so many ways, are inescapably drawn to each other, time and again. This audiobook also has subplots going and I also absolutely loved Stella's friend Sybil. She was such a rock. There is plenty of angst, twists, a little darkness and lots of heat between this couple. I cannot praise A Zavarelli highly enough with this book. I loved it. This is a complete standalone story.

Sexy and Exciting!

I've always enjoyed older men. There's a 10-year age difference between our main characters. I found Sebastian to be very sexy. The way the author described their intimate moments had me turning to a puddle of goo - and not just the hot sex. The touches and teases were titillating. At times I almost felt like *I* was in Stella's shoes. Whew! Stella is young, yes, but she's smart, and I really loved that she was not easily deterred. The narrator was very good. I found it easy to tell whose voice she was using, contrary to what a previous reviewer said. Definitely recommend this audiobook!

Sebastian toed the line

I have devoured all of A. Zavarelli’s mafia romances and loved them so I was eager to try out some of her other books. Bully romances are always tough because there is a very thin line between a troubled guy fighting his desires by punishing the female and just a straight up d-bag. I enjoyed both characters separately, but something was lacking when it came to the connection between them. Stella was a contradiction, she seemed unique and strong at moments but then she would become weak and dependent on her parents, teachers, and friends telling her what she needed to do. Her family life was horrible and of course she was lost, but her obsession with Mr. Carter came on pretty fast so it seemed to lack any real emotions at first… by the end the connection seemed more genuine, it just took a while to get there. I liked the depth of Sebastian’s character, what he went through was extreme and he was more paying a penance than living his life. Again, he seemed to lack a connection with Stella… he was attracted to her right away but it kept coming back to teaching her a lesson by breaking her. The student teacher relationship troupe was new to me but definitely hot, and the way they both turned their lives around at the end was great! Honestly, the end really tied it all together for me... the emotion Sebastian showed finally had me feeling like he really did love Stella. In my opinion, Sybil gets the best character award, I loved her personality and the way she stayed right by Stella’s side no matter what! I actually read this book when it was released last year but I still jumped at the chance to listen when the audio came out. This was my first time listening to Stefanie Kay and she really did an amazing job with Stella. It is difficult listening to audio's sometimes if the narrators voice doesn't match up with the age of the characters, but Stefanie was perfect for the up beat and innocent voices of the high school girls. While her male voice was really good, I wish a male narrator would have read Sebastian's chapters. He is such a troubled, strong and dominant character and I think his voice needed to portray all of his alpha-ness!

WOW!!! Risque and SOOOO GOOD!!

I love Hate Crush! It was so good. I found myself frozen in the same spot just listening to the story not being able to do anything but just listen to the dialogue to hear what would happen next. Hate Crush evoked so many different emotions and the narrator nailed it! I felt them all through her words. I wanted to scream at Sebastian and Stella, I was heartbroken for them and all the unfortunate events in their lives. I wanted to smack so many of the other characters but wanted to reach out and hug some of them too.  I was excited about what was happening and sad for others.  GAHHHH So many emotions! I love Stella and Sebastian. I love how they needed one another and OHHH the Passion between them was HOT... Is this a Student-Teacher romance? Yes but I prefer to say it's a tormented hero finding love. I absolutely love this story

Dual POV

First I'll start off with the narration. The female narrator is good and switched between characters seamlessly. With only a female narrator listed I assumed this was told in the heroines POV but it's a dual POV story. I really wish there was a male narrator for those chapters. I didn't get that alpha vibe when she read his chapters. Had I known this before purchasing I probably would have read instead. The story itself was good, different from the other books I've listened to by this author though. I am still scratching my head over how inexperienced the heroine was too all of a sudden being a pro. She always caved super easy and I would have liked a little more resistance on her part. The hero was cruel and demanding and along with some of her peers made her life miserable. He had a lot of baggage and that made him closed off to any type of relationship. There was an accident that happened years prior and I'm surprised he never did anything about it especially considering his personality. Overall I'd give the story 4 stars and recommend if you're looking for a bully type book. I did enjoy the smexy times and the way he cared about her safety. Narration 5 stars for heroines chapters. 3 stars for heroes chapters.

Teacher/Student Romance

I own the ebook of Hate Crush and really enjoyed it, however the audio version knocked it out of the park for me. Funnily enough, this story has three tropes I never go out of my way for: Teacher/Student taboo relationship, age gap and bully. Ashleigh Zavarelli knows how to reel in a reader, though, and this story is no different. I wanted to punch the Hero in the face several times and there's the normal teenage angst as this story takes place at an exclusive school, but it's really entertaining. Over the top, but a great read with a bit of grit. As for the narration? I flipping loved this narrator. Her versatility with the characters was one of the best I've listened to as someone relatively new to Audible, to the point that I'll be checking out her other work. The accents were great, especially for Sybil (my favourite voice in the story). If you've read a Zavarelli book before, you'll know what you're getting. She's a one-click for me and this Audible was the cherry on the cake. Loved it even more than the ebook, which is a rarity for me.

Loved this taboo romance!!!

This is an absolutely amazing story. Stella finds herself going to a private school for her senior year and her parents can barely seem to be bothered with dumping her off to get her settled. On her first day of class she finds herself literally bumping into the devil himself, Mr. Sebastian Carter, a very hot teacher that seems to hate everyone. When Sebastian sees Stella for the first time his whole body seems to take notice. He decides she's perfect for his last attempt at trying to set one of these kids on a path to discover they need to live life for themselves and not be trying to please everyone else. Only Sebastian ends up going about things with Stella in a whole new way. This is a wonderful story and the narration by Stefanie Kay is perfect for telling it.

Started and stopped several times

I typically love A. Zavarelli's novels and didn't hesitate to add this one to my library. I started and stopped this one several times as I just wasn't feeling it. The story line wasn't very original in terms of the high school girl seeking an older male teachers attention. His need to torment her through his own twisted issues really did nothing for me. While Stella was portrayed to be more mature than her counterparts, and the older teacher was young for his position, there was a lot of petty high school drama and poor communication. Stephanie Kay did a great job narrating and had she not done such a great job, I likely wouldn't have finished the book.

sexy!

A. Zavarelli is one of my favourite writers. She has a way with her words which always has me so captivated. Hate Crush was a sexy student-teacher bully romance. Sebastian and Stella were hot together. I found their banter was great and it keeps you entertained. The attraction was instantaneous. If you enjoy this trope I recommend this book! I couldn't stop listening.

Breaking Through Barriers

I loved the ebook so hearing it in audio was fantastic. The narrator did a fabulous job or bringing Sebastian and Stella to life. I loved this story. This taboo student- teacher trope is exciting.
