The most mysterious is that of Sara Harrison Shea, who, in 1908, was found dead in the field behind her house just months after the tragic death of her daughter, Gertie. Now, in present day, 19-year-old Ruthie lives in Sara's farmhouse with her mother, Alice, and her younger sister, Fawn. Alice has always insisted that they live off the grid, a decision that suddenly proves perilous when Ruthie wakes up one morning to find that Alice has vanished without a trace. Searching for clues, she is startled to find a copy of Sara Harrison Shea's diary....

Summary
The fate of a lonely girl becomes part of a town’s shameful secret history in Thriller Award winner Jennifer McMahon’s terrifying story of guilt, retribution, and one tragic Halloween night.
Thirty-four years ago, on October 31, poor Hannah Talbott took part in a scavenger hunt gone violently wrong. The mean girls made sure of it. To this day, for a haunted local mother, the most unsettling Halloween costume of all is an urban legend they call Hannah-Beast. It’s a reminder of the past she can’t forget. Especially tonight when it’s come back, so close to home.
Jennifer McMahon’s Hannah-Beast is part of Dark Corners, a collection of seven heart-stopping short stories by bestselling authors who give you so many new reasons to be afraid. Each story can be read in a single sitting. Or, if you have the nerve, you can listen all by yourself in the dark.

Love this story. However the narrator on regular speed was really difficult to listen to. I had to put it to 125% speed. Once I did that it was really enjoyable listen. Sufficiently scary and sad at the same time. Love Jennifer McMahon!

Great spooky story!
This was a perfect little Halloween Tale! A great story of lore. I did figure you out the ending but not too soon and I didn’t care because it ended just like I wanted it to. The performance was good. I wasn’t annoyed by the narrators voice. I was swept up in the story. Again, I will say that I love the amazon collections of short stories!! Dark disturbing tale
A dark secret follows Amanda about the Hannah Beast. I thought it was fairly predictable, and had guessed the ending about 20 minutes before the end. The story jumps from the past to the present a little to much for my tastes.

Narrator ruined it
The spooky story had potential but this narrator, Amy Landon, is absolutely awful. She has a whiny, annoying voice, that made me want to pull my hair out. Her character voices for Manda, Mel, and Katie are like nails on a chalkboard to me. Her narrating style, with a fake smooth, slow, but repetitive drawl had me cringing. If you try the sample and feel even the slightest bit of annoyance, realize it’s going to make you insane by the end of the story, and just skip it. It’s not worth it! Plus I saw the ending coming a mile away.

I think this would make a fun family listen on a road trip. There are some scary parts and the girl is bullied a lot so be aware if that could be a trigger or upsetting to your children.

say BOOOOO
Hannah-Beast is the sad story of the past coming back for revenge. Amanda and her mean girl friends love to pick on Hannah. I have no idea why, kids are mean. On Halloween night in 1982, it all goes horrible wrong. It's Halloween 2016- Has Amanda out run her past and what happened that night?
This very short story is read by Amy Landon. She does a great job narrating it. Fans of Jennifer's other books will like this one as well. It's only a hour and 23 minutes long but it's such a sad, heart breaking story.
