About this listen

The long-awaited conclusion to the Shandril's Saga trilogy.

The latest novel from Forgotten Realms creator and best-selling author Ed Greenwood is the third title in this newly created trilogy. This all-new novel concludes the storyline from two long-standing titles that were recently rereleased.

Be careful what you wish for.

Spellfire is the most powerful magic in the land.

It’s a dangerous weapon in anyone’s hands.

In the wrong hands, it can destroy the world.

Shandril Shessair wanted a taste of adventure. She got spellfire, and now she's fleeing for her life across Faern, searching for somewhere to hide. More evil wizards, warriors, and priests than she can count are trying to get it from her, and they'll kill or enslave her without hesitation. Her last, desperate hope is to take refuge in the sheltered city of Silverymoon.

If she makes it that far.

So without any spoilers this series goes nowhere…..

If you want to read a series of three books about endless travels to, it would appear eventually nowhere then this is the culmination of the series of three books for you.

The irony is that the writing is pretty good but somehow, there are so many different characters and things going on that are essentially unresolved other than by killing that as a listener/reader you are left wondering what the plot and or point really was.

The ending without giving it away is eluded to throughout the series but then the writer chickens out of a full blown tragedy and the only thing that felt remotely relatable to.

It’s a shame that there wasn’t more commitment to Narms’ ending as that would have at least left me thinking rather than just being annoyed and wanting my money back……

Of course if like me you are attempting to go through the entire back catalogue of forgotten realms stories you have to accept that they aren’t all classics and just enjoy them for what they are a great bit of lore for the tabletop adventure you play with your friends.

If you’ve not played yourself this series of books will at least give you the confidence that anything you write can’t be any less fulfilling.
