About this listen

The Hematoi descend from the unions of gods and mortals, and the children of two Hematoi-pure-bloods-have godlike powers. Children of Hematoi and mortals-well, not so much. Half-bloods only have two options: Become trained Sentinels who hunt and kill daimons or become servants in the homes of the pures.

Seventeen-year-old Alexandria would rather risk her life fighting than waste it scrubbing toilets, but she may end up slumming it anyway. There are several rules that students at the Covenant must follow. Alex has problems with them all, but especially rule #1: Relationships between pures and halfs are forbidden.

Unfortunately, she's crushing hard on the totally hot pure-blood Aiden. But falling for Aiden isn't her biggest problem-staying alive long enough to graduate the Covenant and become a Sentinel is. If she fails in her duty, she faces a future worse than death or slavery: Being turned into a daimon, and being hunted by Aiden. And that would kind of suck.

"Sexy, sizzling, touching, and fun." (Leigh Fallon, author of Carrier of the Mask)

I enjoyed listening to this book. The plot was engaging and there was a bit of depth to most of the characters. The romance simmered along nicely without being overly graphic/ inappropriately detailed for a YA audience. The narrator was excellent. Overall, it was a decent start to a series. (Unfortunately, the last book of the series was a huge disappointment and I'm not sure I can actually recommend the series on that basis).

A decent start to a series

Honestly one of the best books I have listened to in a while! Got a mix of god's, powers and romance. The reader is a bit annoying and drawly at times but you soon get used to it and doesn't do a half bad job by the end of it. This definitely is a book that you will end up listening to in a day, and it's a nice easy listen.

It's a must read!

Really liked the story, looking forward to what comes next. The characters are typical teens but their links to the gods give them powers. If you like Armentrouts other books you will enjoy this series.

Interesting fantasy, different from fairies and vampires

I don’t know what I was expecting but when I started I couldn’t put it down. I am a fan! It was really engaging and gripped my attention. There were no slow areas the pace was excellent. Looking forward to part two.

Nice gem

I liked it. Something new. I liked the world and the different characters in the middle of it all.
