About this listen

Emerson Riis has a job she loves, friends she considers family, and her goofy malamute Sasha for company. As far as she's concerned, life in the small town of Mystic is pretty much perfect. Enter Mari Davenport, a Hollywood screenwriter with a dozen blockbusters to her name, who arrives in a car that is completely unfit for the north woods of Minnesota. Their paths cross in a way that could have been plucked straight from one of Mari's romcoms, and though their attraction is instant and their chemistry off-the-charts, the fact that Mari must return to LA at the end of her six-month writing sabbatical looms ominously on the horizon. As Emerson and Mari's feelings grow, will they find a way to rewrite the ending to their story, or are they meant only for this sweet but short-lived season of halcyon nights?

I haven't listened to a book by MJ before, so I wasn't sure what I would be in for. But boy did this not disappoint. Lori does a fantastic job as always on delivering the high and lows of these characters, and if you don't both cry and laugh during this book something is wrong with you 😆
The story is fairly simple in premise, but keeps you gripped through the MCs and the loveable side characters. Definitely going to be one af my comfort re-listens.

Loved it! This had a bit of slow start for me but gathered pace and was a real tear jerker. Sacha was wonderful and hilarious. Lori did a fantastic job at narrating and brought the characters to life beautifully. Definitely recommend!

This is a fantastic beautiful romance that blossoms in a small town.
She is a famous writer on vacation, a writing holiday from the city.
She didn't expect to find love, nor find the love of her life. 💖
Excellent narration.🎶

This is the first MJ Duncan I have listened to and I am impressed. it is a lovely, easy listen with a gorgeous dog who steals the show. The story arc and character portrayals are great, there's humour and charm, to balance out the essential will-they / won't-they angst of this genre, and the narration, especially the dog, is perfect. I will definitely be on the look out for more from this author.

A lovely lesbian slow burn

Honestly Lori Prince's narration of Sasha had me giggling, her playful woofs and sounds got me good. The antics the beast got up to constantly made me smile. Now that the most important aspect of the book is highlighted, onto the rest of the review.

In all seriousness though, this is my favourite MJ Duncan book by far! It was funny, not robin alexander level of humour, but good consistent laughs for the most part throughout filled with plenty of cute and sweet moments. I really enjoyed the chemistry between Emerson and Mari, the tension between the two kept coiling till they couldn't hold back anymore, it wasn't immediate but still decently quick, honestly for this story it felt like the perfect pacing for me.

And the secondary characters! Everybody watching these two are like the best allies one could hope for, playful yet comforting and available when needed. A real found family feeling going on here. The angst within the story comes purely from Emerson and Mari, no outside influence, and its not too heavy but honestly i think Lori's narration racketed up the emotion and made it hit harder, so 10/10 for the narration. Thats not even including the spicy scenes where again phew that narration! Just a great time all round to be honest. Eagerly awaiting the next MJ Duncan book!
