Summary

Humor fans of all ages will love these hairy tales! Nine stories full of rhymes, morals, and wit - or just plain silliness and absurdity! Great fun for children and adults alike, these crazy tales come from the bonkers mind of author Clifford James Hayes and are brilliantly narrated by Sheree Wichard.

Join the Ugly Mermaid on her amazing undersea quest to discover why she's so hideous, and find out why Veronica the Velociraptor has such very bad teeth! Discover Aubrey's Smelly Adventure in the Land of Bernards, and learn that it can be cool to be different in Shipwreck'd Sarah and the Silly-Looking Pirates!

Are you brave enough to meet the hideous, toad-fearing Grandma Grunt? And what dreadful fate awaits Horrid Horatia, the fearsome lady-slug? Baron Tuskogee pays a terrible price for his greed in "The Walrus Story," stinky old Podge the pig revolts in more ways than one, and the dreaded Lurgatron threatens to take over the world! All this (and a great deal more!) can be found in Hairy Tales!

Short and silly stories, great for school commute

Would you listen to Hairy Tales again? Why?

My son's attention span doesn't go far when it comes to books, so this set of short stories work for him.
He sat chuckling in the car on the way to school with this playing on his earphones all week. Made the trip a lot quieter.

What was one of the most memorable moments of Hairy Tales?

My son played this, not me, and said he liked what happened to the Ugly Mermaid.

What three words best describe Sheree Wichard’s performance?

Not sure.

If you made a film of this book, what would be the tag line be?

Silly stories to keep kids engrossed.

Clever and slightly naughty fables for children

If you could sum up Hairy Tales in three words, what would they be?

fables, quirky, funny.

What other book might you compare Hairy Tales to, and why?

Probably something like Charlie and the Choc Factory, Matilda etc.

Which character – as performed by Sheree Wichard – was your favourite?

lots of charcters from the different stories but my fave was the ugly mermaid; that was a surprise!.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

quite sad for the mice in Horatia the slug story, but it had a happy ending..

Any additional comments?

not what I expected at all, but theres a lot of detail in the stories and I think children would appreciate it, esp. if they listen to the stories several times. quite a few 'messages' in the stories for kids to pick up.

Stories for Naughty Boys and Girls

Any additional comments?

"Hairy Tales: A Collection of Stories for Naughty Boys and Girls" This title says it all. I'm sure Middle Grade kids would love this book! There is a lot of good gross out stories. Yucky humor to make you laugh out loud!

The narration was well done, the characters were well portrayed.

Hairy Tales

This is a really over the top narration by Sheree Wichard.I could barely stand to listen.I also found the stories not so nice.It is possible a 10 year old might like it,but not one that I know.I was given this book free by the Author, narrator or publisher for review.

Loved it. Very silly

Lots of silly stories, mainly aimed at children but with a lot of elements to amuse grown ups also. Was gifted this from publisher as a review copy; plan to buy for niece for Xmas.

impartial review in exchange for the audiobook

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

I am an occasional reviewer of books and audiobooks, and was recently sent a copy of Hairy Tales in return for this impartial review.

I would say that Hairy Tales is written for children, but at the same time it works for adults also - there are a few jokes and rhymes that parents will get. 'Pythonesque' is how I might describe it. Overall, the stories and rhymes are well written, and well narrated. Some of the rhymes are very clever indeed, and worth repeated listening to pick up all the details.

The narrator ‘performs’ much of the stories, rather than narrates - which I think children would like as narrations can often sound quite flat.

There’s a fair amount of ‘gross out’ humor in some of the stories, but children love that, don’t they?

What other book might you compare Hairy Tales to, and why?

Aesops Fables, Wimpy Kid series, Tom Gates, Horrid Henry, Walliams' books.

Which character – as performed by Sheree Wichard – was your favourite?

Uncle Disgusting. Great name.

Did you have an emotional reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

Plenty of chuckles.

Any additional comments?

Unexpected and not what I usually read/listen, but after 'giving it a listen' I enjoyed it.
