About this listen

A gripping new standalone thriller from the bestselling author of the Jackman and Evans series.

Detective Sam Helsdown hasn’t seen his daughter Zoe in two years and he’s excited and more than a little nervous to be at the airport picking her up for a visit. She’s 10 years old and has flown on her own for the first time.

Flight BA631 from Athens has already landed and soon a trickle of people begins entering Arrivals. Among them is a little girl who runs towards him, head down, and throws herself into his arms saying ‘Daddy!’.

But then he looks at her properly. This is not Zoe. This is not his daughter.

Shortly afterwards Sam receives a phone call from his ex, Julia. ‘Help will come. Until then, guard her with your life.’

Soon unknown enemies are closing in and Sam must risk everything to keep this girl safe – whilst trying to discover her true identity.

Well, it must have had something going for it as I listened to the end, but the author clearly has no idea of human psychology or child development. As well as the main story being completely unbelievable, which might be forgivable, none of the main characters behaved in a psychologically consistent way and Sophie at 10 years old, bright though she was portrayed as being, was given a vocabulary that most graduates would envy. I could go on, but really…

What a ridiculous story!

Could not stop listening.
Very well written.
This is the first book I’ve read by this author and now I will read many more.

Utterly Brilliant.

Disappointed as this was not in the same league as her other books. I found it far fetched, too long to get to the climax then over too quick, a rushed unbelievable ending.

Far fetched

Storyline was a little predictable and quite weak. The narrator did the best he told with what he had to work with

Weak story

If this hadn't have been free I might be less impressed, but as there was nothing lost I thought it did an okay job of filling a few hours while I worked on a DIY project, nothing more than that!
