Summary

The brand new audiobook from the best-selling author of The Break and The Woman Who Stole My Life.

They're a glamorous family, the Caseys. Johnny Casey, his two brothers Ed and Liam, their beautiful, talented wives and all their kids spend a lot of time together - birthday parties, anniversary celebrations, weekends away. And they're a happy family. Johnny's wife, Jessie - who has the most money - insists on it.

Under the surface, though, conditions are murkier. While some people clash, other people like each other far too much.... Everything stays under control until Ed's wife Cara, gets concussion and can't keep her thoughts to herself. One careless remark at Johnny's birthday party, with the entire family present, starts Cara spilling out all their secrets. In the subsequent unravelling, every one of the adults finds themselves wondering if it's time - finally - to grow up?

Wonderful story BUT pls go back to actors reading

I LOVE Marian Keyes books.. and this is no different. BUT will have to go back to reading rather than audible if she continues to read her own books. Authors just never as good.. but she’s in good company.. Le Carre, Douglas Adams just the same!

Love the narration

I have listened to the first few chapters and am already engrossed in the story. I would like to counter the reviews which were negative about Marian’s narration, I love listening to her read the book, it’s like listening to a friend read you a story!

Wonderful Marian Keyes

Having The Marian Keyes read her book to me made it triple good, as I tend to wonder if the author really wanted the caracter to sound like this or a change of tonation changes the whole scene, it’s so lovely to know this is straight from the horses mouth so to speak.. Also such a lovely voice filled with warmt and humour in the most gorgeous accent, she could probably have me enjoying anything she read - but of course this is classic Marian Keyes style awesome, with amazing and likable characters, blowing my mind with their kindness and making me resume some hope for human kind! And again you shine your light on very important subjects and give focus and insights that one can bring within and hopefully be a kinder person for having walked a mile in that shoe, living through every part of your story! Thank you!

Narration rather shrill

Marion is a talented writer and maybe she should stick with her main skill set. Leave the reading of her audio books to professional actors with more soothing voices.

Top Form

Intriguing, loveable, entertaining characters dealing with real world tragedy and problems in a heart warming way. This is on par with earlier works
I can't believe other reviewers didn't enjoy the narration I think that the author is perfect for reading her own work

A bit of a weak novel

I adore Marian Keyes and have all her books. This was a bit of weak one for me. Too many characters, a hefty dose of wealthy people problems, stir with plenty of middle class guilt. I enjoyed Marian’s reading but the book felt like it lurched from a posh hotel to a posh dinner to a luxury Italian holiday... and the characters didn’t feel very real or fleshed out for her - judging from her previous books in which characters stay with you and have very strong personalities

Fantastic, and it’s narrated by Marian herself!

Fabulously funny, poignant, romantic, socially aware, what more do you want? I wished it was longer, I was so enamoured with the characters lives, hardly got anything done as all I wanted to do was carry on listening, but at the same I didn’t want it to end.

Excellent.

This is a complex book, and with so many characters, moving in and out of the narrative, you have to keep your wits about you otherwise you can get lost. But I have to say I love the way Marian Keyes writes. Very unconventional! I don't think she would mind me saying that. Her stories are character driven. She introduces characters and then loops back on the time line to develop them. Very interesting and experimental I think. Reminds me a little of the way Virginia Woolf wrote her stories.

This book has a lot going on within the family setting. In some ways tragic, and often very funny. I won't say anymore for fear of spoiling it for those that haven't read it yet.

I loved it. What made me love it even more was that she narrated it herself. I found her very easy to listen to, and she read it so well.

Thank you, Marian.

Hm...

I like Marian Keyes in interviews and youtube videos and really enjoyed some of her previous books, so I have been looking forward to this one for a while. Now that I am finished after seventeen hours I am left with very mixed feelings. I don’t want to give spoilers, so I won’t elaborate on my disappointment, but, oh well, I didn’t like the ending of the one relationship I cared about and found some excessively elaborate descriptions and character arcs really dissatisfying. That said, the book is an easy listen and the many hours pass quickly.

Charming, so human and so funny

I am a longtime fan of Marian Keyes’ books but this last one is a “cherry on the top”. Fabulous characters, plot, dialogue and insight from the characters themselves. Best of all was Keyes’ own narration and I’m still laughing from her accent and narration of the ill-fated murder mystery hotel owners!
