About this listen
Let’s start here. The twelve days of Christmas are actually after the holiday. And my dad, being the great guy he is, and the battalion chief of the fire department, signs up one of his rebellious firefighters for a retreat because of his bad behavior. The guy is a total grouch. But when he misses the bus for the adult redemption camp, Dad sticks the guy with me for twelve days. Alone.
So, on the dozen days some mysterious true love—which I have yet to experience—should be bringing me gifts, like French hens and golden rings, I’m in charge of this firebird on our pear farm. Being the city man he is, he doesn’t have a clue how to can fruit, mend fences, or milk cows.
But he knows how to kiss . . . Not that we should be doing such a thing. Only his silver beard is sexy, and his crooked smile kind of sweet. He has this alpha energy vibrating around his well-honed body but underneath the grumpy exterior is a man lonely for something more in his life, like me. And instead of gifting each other random birds, leaping lords and piping pipers, the gift we give one another is time . . . and our bodies. But what about our hearts? Maybe true love will strike after all. A lot can happen in twelve days.
In a new tradition from L.B. Dunbar comes another holiday hottie certain to heat up your holidays.

Brock is a firefighter who has drawn the ire of his boss and has been mandated to attend a retreat with him however he was late for the bus. He now finds himself staying with Pear doing odd jobs around his home but what was supposed to be discipline turns into a reward.
Both Pear and Brock are dealing with the emotional aftermath from their pasts, but I enjoyed seeing them opening up to each other and start to heal. Through the narrators you could feel the swoon factor of Brock as well as the strength and insecurities of Pear.

I listened to the audiobook. It's narrated by Stella Hunter and Teddy Hamilton. They both did an excellent job with their performances.
I received a copy of this book at my request, and the opinions here are my own.

Brock is really at a crossroads in his life. His hasn't fully processed his divorce, and is living day-to-day without really moving on. When his captain sends him to his remote cabin to work out his issues, Brock is in for the surprise of his life when he's greeted by Paradise (aka "Pear"), the captain's daughter. But Brock and Pear both have hurts to heal and past loves to move past. Their initial wariness gives way to love that they both didn't expect but desperately need.
LB Dunbar is a romcom wizard that makes their serious process of healing fun, humorous and steamy. Brilliant narration by Stella Hunter and Teddy Hamilton makes this an audio-lover's delight, and it hits the holiday season perfectly.
Another great LB Dunbar romcom with so much heart

Stella Hunter and Teddy Hamilton are the story tellers, and I knew I was in for a treat. Hunter as Pear. She has attitude, is spunky and vulnerable all at the same time. Hunter is spot on with her voice, holding each emotion together. Hamilton is Brock, and he had me from the start. His grouchiness is just enough to be endearing, and his heart is on his sleeve. Loved these two and enjoyed their performance.
I love a good grouch!

3.5 stars for story / 5 stars for performance
This was such a nice, quick listen. Paradise and Brock are great characters for a grumpy/grumpier trope. Add in a bit of a forbidden aspect (she is his boss’s daughter) and it has a light layer of angst which was impressive considering it was a shorter book. Perfect for a short road trip or plane flight.
The narrators really did an amazing job. They are two of my go-to narrators and this book is exactly why. I love hearing them together and will always recommend anything the voice.
Grumpy/sunshine
