About this listen

From the author of the occult horror trilogy Father of Lies.

Groom Lake, a novella, is an eerie psychological thriller with plenty of supernatural horror for those who enjoy this author's dark style of writing.

Lauren Stafford, a traumatized divorcee, decides to rent a cottage on the edge of a beautiful ancestral estate in the Welsh Marches. But from the very first day of arrival she instinctively knows there's something terribly wrong here—something malevolent and ancient—a feeling the whole place is trapped in a time warp. She really ought to leave. But the pull of the lake is too strong, its dark magic so powerful it crosses over into dreams . . . turning them into nightmares. What lies beneath its still black surface? And why can't Lauren drag herself away? Why her? And why now?

Very evocative descriptions of the area. Jarring Welsh accent, sounded anything from Nessa in Barry or Ruth Madoc.

The descriptions.

Huge fan of SE England’s books, but this was very slow, easy to lose track of because it didn’t catch me in the same way. Sarah is normally a really good story teller, wanting to know more, sadly not this time. It filled a gap, was ok just not as good as her others. I’ll still look out for her new books and chalk this down to me not feeling the story

It’s ok not great!
