Summary

A group of kids in the '90s had a dream to make their voices heard - and this book documents their seminal impact on today's pop culture.

DJ Target grew up in Bow under the shadow of Canary Wharf, with money looming close on the skyline. The 'Godfather of Grime' Wiley and Dizzee Rascal first met each other in his bedroom. They were all just grime kids on the block back then and didn't realise they were to become pioneers of an international music revolution. A movement that permeates deep into British culture and beyond.

Household names were born out of those housing estates, and the music industry now jumps to the beat of their gritty reality rather than the tune of glossy aspiration. Grime has shaken the world, and Target is revealing its explosive and expansive journey in full, using his own unique insight and drawing on the input of grime's greatest names.

Absolutely loved this! So necessary, easy to get into, and full of well-told stories and anecdotes.

From jungle, to UK garage, to the origins of grime, I loved every second of this, and I'm looking forward to similar projects in the future! 👌🏽

Gritty and Explosive

Great to listen to a subject I did not know much about. The narrative was clear and precise - it also reflected on my experience growing up in East London. DJ Target was raw and his own interpretation was flawless facts. The music incorporated an industry that is bursting at the seams. From ragga, jungle, garage inflamed the torch for Grime . I highly recommend this book because of the in depth life living and existing within inner city life which surroundings is masked by poverty and deprivation.

News I could use but too repetitive

Love Target longtime listener and was happy for the insight he had into the scene that I did not know as a very early grime fan. I found myself zoning out towards the end cause got very repetitive. Worth the read nonetheless
