Summary
Die verwaiste Grete Minde wächst ohne Liebe und Wärme bei ihrem Halbbruder und dessen Frau auf. Eines Tages läuft sie mit ihrem Freund Valtin davon. Drei Jahre reisen sie mit einer Schauspieltruppe quer durchs Land. Dann wird Grete schwanger und Valtin stirbt an einer schweren Krankheit. So kehrt Grete zu ihren Pflegeeltern zurück und bittet um Obdach für sich und das Kind. Als sie kaltherzig abgewiesen wird, reagiert sie mit einem verheerenden Racheakt und setzt die ganze Stadt in Brand. Zahlreiche Menschen sterben mit ihr in den Flammen.
