Simply a superb listen!
Milo Rathkey, an ex-cop, now struggling financially as a private eye, unexpectedly finds himself rich, the lucky beneficiary of fifteen million dollars and half of the large estate where he grew up. He also finds a friend, the son of the man who treated him so generously in his will and the owner of the other half of his new home.
This absolutely delightful murder mystery is full of characters, from the powerful and wealthy world of business and law, the low life of the city and the cops with whom Milo is very familiar. Great conversations, not the smart ass repartee of some slick detective stories but much more true to life light hearted or cynical replies. There is an especially enjoyable poker evening...
As the story ranges far and wide through Milo's coming to terms with his unexpected good fortune, and aquaintances old and new, he also finds himself in the position of consultant to the police when the unpleasantly belligerent husband of the host of a New Year's party he is attending, is found murdered. With so many suspects, it is going to be a hard case to solve.

The clues are there. The reader can try to work it out in a good, old fashioned who-dun-it? One enclosed in an excellent setting. Narrator Tom Lennon is a perfect choice to carry the story. His quite deep voice has a warmth and resonance, good intonation and understanding of the text. A lot of characters to voice but each one is given a distinctiveness and one which fits their personalities. A good performance which further brings an already vibrant book to greater life. My one reservation is that there should have been a greater pause between changes of scene within the chapters. But this is a minor quibble.

Good mystery to solve amidst great characters and wider background story, full of interest and humour. My sincere thanks to the rights holder of Great Party, Sorry About the Murder, who, at my request, freely gifted me a complimentary copy, via Audiobook Boom. From the little tweak at the very end there must be another Milo book to follow. I, personally, await it with great anticipation.
Highly recommended.
