Some of the stories are great some of the narration terrible. Specially when telling British themed stories. The narrator when trying to put on a British accent either ends up sounding like Laurence Olivier doing Shakespeare or Dick van Dyke in Mary Poppins. Thank goodness it was free.

Husband loves ghost stories and took this audio with him when he climbed his last Munroe. Well narrated and the stories were right up his street.

Well there really nothing that will ever replace a well told ghost story from the last century and this book though short has them all. Some of the best writers in their field with some old favourites such as ‘The Signalman’ with some I hadn’t heard before and all perfectly well told. Perfect for Halloween and because it’s audio there’s no need to put the light on thus enhancing the horror experience of a true ghost story the way it should be told. I liked it and I’d recommend it if only because the English stories were narated by English narators or at least British and the American ghost stories likewise which is more than can be said for some collections I’ve experienced where the naration is spoiled by bad accents or attempts at accents anyway. I’d read this again any time but especially on dark nights with no moon.

There’s nothing to replace the old fashioned ghost story is there?

A selection of stories that, despite having been written by some famous authors, is hard to love. Several are overly endowed with flowery descriptive passages that are annoying to say the least. Not recommended as 'classic' ghost stories.

A mixed bag
