About this listen

Birdie Greenwing has been at a loose end ever since her beloved twin sister and husband passed away. Too proud and stubborn to admit she is lonely, Birdie's world has shrunk. But then some new neighbours move in to the house next door.

Jane has come to Brighton for a fresh start, away from her ferociously protective mother Min. While Jane finds it hard to stand up for herself, her daughter Frankie has no problem telling people what she does and doesn't want. Ada Kowalski has come to England to follow her dreams, but her new life is harder than she expected. When a series of incidents brings their lives crashing together, the three find that there is always more to a person than meets the eye. . .

I enjoyed the story of these women's lives immensely. The narrator is superb. Highly recommend.

A perceptive, tender novel

Birdie Greenwing is dying but in the process comes to life and brings others around her to life too. Each chapter is told from each character’s perspective, secrets are unfolded and tossed into the mix. A lovely story narrated perfectly. Will re-listen as soon as I’ve forgotten the details!

Just perfect

This is a Heartwarming story, sometimes very funny and some extremely moving. The reader is excellent, I laughed and I cried, I loved it.

Beautiful story

This book is very different to what I have read before but due to a recommendation I did decide to give it a go.

I found it very difficult to connect with the characters especially Ada. There were a lot of actions the characters did that didn't quite make sense.

I loved Frankie's frankness and Min's viewpoint. I enjoyed those two as a character.

As the title is about Birdie I did expect to see her take more of a central role. Maybe I was sad that her experience albeit a little improved remained so sad.

Interesting characters
