About this listen

Public Relations expert Emery Bates has exactly one problem she's willing to admit, and it's that she doesn't have a girlfriend to take as her date to a wedding. Not because she needs a girlfriend, but because she needs an easier way to come out to college friends that she hasn't seen in five years. Her job is about controlling the narrative, and as she sees it, there's no reason why that can't extend to her personal life. When her next door neighbor ends up single a few weeks before the wedding, problem solver Emery realizes inviting Jordan along and faking romance for a week in Hawaii could be perfect for both of them.

Jordan Davis doesn't worry about much, especially what will happen tomorrow. Life's too short to plan every second, and it usually doesn't work out anyway. When Emery invites her on an all-expenses paid trip to Hawaii, it's not a hard sell. She'll get to enjoy a tropical vacation with one of her closest friends, and she'll get to spend more time with Emery, away from Emery's hectic work schedule back in Austin. But, there's more to the request than Emery's letting on, and there's more to Jordan's willingness to help than she wants to admit. Faking it is all about the spin, but when lines begin to blur, both women have to decide if falling in love for real is worth the jump.

Contains mature themes.

Although I enjoyed the story was disappointed in some the language used which I found unnecessary. Others have highlighted this issue.

The determination of the main characters to overcome the malicious nature of others.

I did like the book, I liked the story and the characters.

But, one thing that grated on me, was the use of the word ‘spastic’. It made me cringe every time I heard it, and it’s used a lot.

Good but..

Good Spin is such an amazing friends-to-lovers story! a true feel-good book that had me smiling the whole way through. Monica McCallan captures the romance and heart perfectly, and Lori Prince’s narration makes it shine even brighter. She brings the characters to life with warmth, charm, and so much personality. A delightful listen from start to finish!

Another reviewer mentioned use of the word "spastic", which I agree is an offensive and disablist term, in this audiobook. As a result I nearly did not listen to it but found it hard to believe that a writer such as Monica McCallan would use the term in an offensive way. So I decided to make my own mind up and listened out for 'spastic' while enjoying the rest of the story. Now, I may have missed it, even though the reviewer said it occurred a few times, but I do not remember hearing it even once and think the reviewer who made that claim must be mistaken.

The things I love most about Monica McCallan's writing is her skill at getting across emotion and that she can create love stories and MCs with a sweetness at their core but with enough twists and turns, emotional highs and lows to make her novels botn interesting and satisfying. Lord Prince adds her narrator's magic to this one and brings the characters and story to life. Lovely!

Lovely

I genuinely enjoyed this but was disappointed hear spastic/spaz/spazzy used repeatedly. I realise that it’s been widely used in America for a long time and isn’t necessarily meant to be discriminatory but it just is. A black spot on what is a lovely story.

Great overall
