There were a few things that stuck out, especially since I had heard of them, but depending on the source, the information could be a bit different.
It is heartbreaking to know that it was true that boys were removed from their families at the age of 7 to learn to fight. Considering that they fought for their people as teens, some of them never lived a full life. It was nice to be reminded that the women of Sparta had more rights than women from other places.
It is also amazing to see how languages and writing help to influence other civilizations and their means of evolving communication.
Although, I am shocked to hear about some of the history of Macedonian royalty, but when you have that many wives, some are bound to be greedy and/or angry.
Either way, this audiobook does an awesome job of presenting the important information in a way that isn't compact, but isn't overbearing. It gives the listeners something to think about.
