Questa storia ha inizio nel 1948, quando gli inglesi, partendo da Israele, lasciarono due popoli in lotta: l'uno con tutto, l'altro con niente. Suad Amiry, palestinese, racconta quella perdita inestimabile, quella dei muri con dentro le anime, la memoria, i gesti, gli affetti.

Muri a cui oggi, ai vecchi proprietari di sempre, è addirittura proibito avvicinarsi, è preclusa la vista, la memoria delle sensazioni. Come all'architetto Andoni, che vorrebbe tornare nell'abitazione che ha progettato e costruito, il "suo gioiello", e scopre in tribunale di non poterlo fare in quanto "proprietario assente"; o come a Huda, che preferisce testardamente la cella alla condanna di non poter rientrare nella casa dei genitori.

Insieme agli effetti di un conflitto storico che dura da allora, Suad Amiry, con profonda grazia e humour dissacrante, si confronta con un tema universale e potente com'è quello della casa, che finisce per coincidere con la nostra stessa identità, con la nostra stessa, comune, storia.
