About this listen

How China’s next wave of innovation is reshaping the global balance of power

For decades, China’s economic rise has been symbolized by the unstoppable force of low-cost manufacturing. Today, a new and far more disruptive wave of competition is unfolding, one that threatens not just Western manufacturing but also the West’s geopolitical dominance.

In Global Tech Wars, Financial Times’ veteran journalist James Kynge delivers a gripping analysis of China’s rapid technological ascent. No longer confined to low-end goods, China is now leading in cutting-edge industries: artificial intelligence, electric vehicles, surveillance technology, robotics, and more. Big Western corporations are facing multiple disruptive shocks. What does this mean for the future? Will China’s technological leadership translate into global geopolitical dominance? Drawing on deep research, exclusive interviews, and firsthand insights, Kynge unpacks the seismic shifts already underway—shifts that will redefine economies, industries, and global power structures in the years ahead.

With expert analysis and urgent storytelling, Global Tech Wars is an essential listen for anyone seeking to understand the forces shaping our future.

A intriguing insight into a world that we all rely on, but know so little about. Informative, fascinating and terrifying in equal measures!

A must read!

Superb book narrative by the author who has covered China for years. In the new world of Trump tariffs, China has a pretty strong set of cards despite what POTUS might have you believe.

An absolute must read

I loved that the complex topics were told in a story-like manner with human interest. it made the fairly dense topics come alive, extraordinarily timely with Trump now in office but the amazing thing was that the author had started to write the book a year plus before Trump was in the White House. I would rather like to listen to a sequel
