This is not a modern horror novel, but a collection of old ghost stories, and should be enjoyed as such. Fry's voice and performance in combination with the great music/sound design/ambience gives each story an equally cozy and eerie atmosphere. Note: the very first story might be the most boring one, so don't be discouraged by the first impression.

Excellent reading and sound design

An excellent selection of tales, superbly narrated by Stephen Fry. Thorough recommended listening for a dark winter’s night.

Brilliant from start to finish couldn't ask for better from Stephen Fry, Would recommend it to anyone. The audio sounds and the well narrated stories helps bring the stories to life. Hope to see some of Stephen Fry definitive collection in the future.

An audiobook worth recommending.

The use of sound effects. Totally unnecessary. Stephen Fry has an exceptional voice that does not need anything extra added to increase the “atmosphere” - just the vocals are enough

All the stories were excellently narrated and well chosen.

Completely fab but it makes me want a Stephen Fry does M R James edition or a Fry does Algernon Blackwood edition. I'm sure the Mr Fry could think of all sorts of interesting things to say about those writers, too.
This volume is well worth a listen but has left me wanting a lot more.

Loved so much but....
