About this listen
She knew. That's why Mom hadn't opened the door. She knew he was dead.
Twenty years as an army brat, and Ember Howard knew, too. The soldiers at the door meant her dad was never coming home. What she didn't know was how she would find the strength to singlehandedly care for her crumbling family when her mom falls apart. Then Josh Walker enters her life. Hockey star, her new next door neighbor, and not to mention he has the most delicious hands that insist on saving her over and over again.
He has a way of erasing the pain with a single look, a single touch. As much as she wants to turn off her feelings and endure the heartache on her own, she can't deny their intense attraction. Until Josh's secret shatters their world. And Ember must decide if he's worth the risk that comes with loving a man who could strip her bare.
©2014 Rebecca Yarros (P)2015 Audible Inc.Since this was an audible listen and I don’t have any quotes to pull out the hat right now.
Also, I’m incredibly late to the scene with this book and yet somehow managed to avoid spoilers.
I wasn’t expecting to start crying from the start of the story but I’ll blame it on the onions I was chopping at the time 😅
After a run of several DNF audiobooks, I was happy to see this one from Rebecca Yarros included in the Audible plus catalog— I should’ve expected an angsty tearjerker even though this was my first book by this author, I know she has a reputation that I esteem in high regard with a few of her other books on my TBR and a favourite
Anyhoo, I enjoyed this story as a whole, it was well written with depth and clarity, and I clung to every word. Every scene. The connection between the characters was believable for the most part. I understood Ember from the PoV as an empathetic reset but she was also frustrating with her hot-cold, push-pull that got too much after a couple of times. I loved Josh Walker and he’s very the kind of Hero I would label book husband material- he was too soft on Ember at times but it becomes apparent why later on, and Ember’s frustrating behaviour tapers off nearer the end.
Everyone needs a Josh Walker, and if you like YA romance, angsty, emotional tearjerkers, and an on/off the college campus setting this one is for you.
Tear-jerker, emotional, angsty...
