About this listen

Following the hugely popular and successful Around the World in 80 Days and Pole to Pole, Michael Palin set off to meet another challenge: an anti-clockwise circumnavigation of the world's largest ocean, the Pacific.

Eighteen countries border the vast expanse of sea that is the Pacific. Palin travelled through them by air, train, boat, car, and on foot, exploring some of the most beautiful landscapes on earth. As he moved through different countries he met the wonderfully diverse communities that make up their populations, many of whom lead far from ordinary lives.

Whether he's talking to head-hunters in Borneo or eating maggots in Mexico, Palin recounts his adventures in a vivid and lively style that brilliantly evokes the full colour and richness of the Pacific Rim.

I can remember watching the series quite a few years ago when Palin travelled Full Circle. In fact, I have watched several programs as he has travelled around many places, and countries and met various people.

Listening to the Full Circle was really good as it meant I rather than watching the scenery I was reliant on his observations. He does make a very good narrator for his books and it means he does add his own personal touch to when things were amusing, scary or dangerous.

Following his journey around the globe was insightful and full of interesting facts about traditions, rituals, cultures, religions and races. If you have not heard or seen of any of his programs or books then you are missing out on some wonderful journeys and adventures. This was first released on the BBC in 1997 and so there are some things that have changed over the 20+ years.

The book is a fabulous one to listen to and it is one of many that he narrates. I really enjoyed listening to this and I would happily recommend it.

A good companion to Palin’s travel programs. Great to have the man himself read the book.

Palin at his best

Michael Palin can do no wrong in my opinion. Fabulous book and fabulous narration. Really enjoyed it. I just wish audible or the publishing company could make the audiobooks available in the unabridged versions. I feel like I am missing out with the abridged versions. I realise this would make the audiobooks more expensive, but in my opinion it would be worth it.

Very entertaining and great service from Audible once again. Easy to download and purchase. Fantastic.
