About this listen

After years of running, Quinn has finally found a town to settle down in while she searches for the man who tore her life apart. Despite her every intention not to, she's started to put down some roots and make friends. However, the small bit of solace she's found is quickly shattered when a group of vampires walk into the bar where she works and turn her life upside down.

Looking only to stop for a few nights and have a good time, Julian never expected to stumble across someone like Quinn. Determined to keep her free from the vampires looking to use her as a weapon, Julian is stunned to discover himself starting to care for the mysterious woman with a dark past she's unwilling to reveal. It doesn't take him long to realize that the vampires after her are only a part of the problem. This quiet little town is hiding a violent secret of its own; a secret that not only threatens the town, but Quinn in particular.

Where to start?? This book is great. Really likeable characters with an intriguing storyline. Looking forward to the next book. Meghan does a fantastic job with this narration.

I really liked the premise of the storyline. It's interesting and has a lot of potential. I feel like, even though the author says you don't need to read the series that this is a spinoff from, that I would have enjoyed it more if I had. There is a lot of reference back to the other series and its characters. It causes a bit of a disconnect if you're new and just starting with this series. I'm hoping that future books will focus more on the current characters and storyline and reflect less back on the previous series.

Meghan's performance was both good and not great at the same time. Her female characters and basic story reading are great. She has a good tone, lots of inflection, etc. Her make voices on the other hand are just so dull in comparison. If she read her male characters with the same enthusiasm she does her female characters, it would have been a really good performance.

"Frost Burn" was my first paranormal book and 1st book that I listen to that was by Erica Stevens and narrated by Meghan Kelly. I totally enjoyed this particular book so often, that I haven't noticed I never written a review for it until now; crazy huh?

Erica has a great handle on doing paranormal books, especially when it involves vampires and other creatures in that genre. She was able to give us Drama, Mystery, Thriller, Suspense, and a little Romance. I never felt lost or unsure about the direction Erica was leading the story or the characters.

The narrator Meghan Kelly has a God's given gift in character's voice storytelling. I was able to distinguish each characters voice to be who she wanted it to be. She never waivered, I liked that about her. I recently listened to a book and I was very disappointed with the narrator. Not only with the voice but also the narrator you could tell that she did a lot of changing up and pauses + heavy breathing in between which became very disturbing so it was nice to hear one that sounded very professional as Megan did; she work the microphone very well I was very impressed with her skills.

I've learned that Erica Stevens has turned "Frost Burn" into a Series, with "Arctic Fire" being Book, 2 in "The Fire and Ice Series" which it's out in Audible now. I looking forward to listening to it next, because I always felt Quinn and Julian's story was far from being over. I recommend this book for sure, to be part of your listening pleasure!

I would rate this at 4 1/2 overall stars. I like Meghan as a narrator, but it seems that a dual narrative would have fit better for this book. She did a decent job, just some of the narrative for Julian in my opinion fell a little short of her talent. I’ve read the spin off series a few years ago, so I knew the background of Julian and understood him well. However, if you don’t have that background knowledge you could feel lost at times. Although Erica does touch briefly on it in this book. If I didn’t feel that understanding to be vital, I would have given this story a solid 5. The heartache felt at the end of this book will definitely have you picking up book two ASAP!
