About this listen

A couple forced to work together trade their business barbs to engage in more pleasurable activities in #1 New York Times bestselling author Nora Roberts’ From This Day.

To hotel manager B. J. Clark, the Lakeside Inn is more than just a historic New England landmark, it’s a place both staff and guests call home. So when wealthy hotelier Taylor Reynolds decides to add it to his global hospitality empire with plans to modernize its charm and character, B. J. prepares herself to resist this hostile takeover. But she didn’t prepare for their heated discussions to take place behind closed doors where more passionate desires would arise.

I normally really enjoy Norah Roberts books but unfortunately I found the outdated “masterful “ attitude of the male character did not sit well with me.

I've read several of Nora Roberts' books & enjoyed them. Unfortunately, this novel is remarkably poor, given the quality of the author. A series of cliches & tropes from beginning to end - hyper masculine, manly man in position of power over younger, smart, beautiful but childlike woman who can't think straight when he's around (tho' apparently quite capable of running a successful hotel when he's not around....). He invades her space, kisses & is physical with her despite being told not to (because no means yes...), makes all the decisions, etc, etc. The only mitigating factor is that it was first published in 1983 & feels very much of it's time, similar in style & tone to the romance novels my best friend's mother used to read in the 70s & 80s. Anyway, Nora Roberts more recent books are far better & I'll be sticking to them in future
