Summary

Transport yourself to 1920s Liverpool, to be moved and delighted by this wonderful novel from one of the UK's best-loved saga authors.

In 1920s Liverpool, Jane, her little brother Alfie and their mother Ellen have faced the horrors of the workhouse together. But when Ellen dies, two very different paths open up for the siblings. Jane is sent to work in the Empire Laundry and builds a new life for herself with the neighbours who take her in. She finds solace there and the promise of a happy future when she falls for Joe, their eldest son.

But Alfie absconds from the workhouse and embarks on a life of crime. When their paths cross once more, Alfie turns on his sister. His plans will jeopardise every happiness she hoped for....

Excellent !

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

It's a very easy story to listen to and I was able to get lost in the story. It's a lovely tale of living in the 1920's and how a young girl came to overcome sad beginnings.

What other book might you compare From Liverpool with Love to, and why?

I brought another Lyn Andrews audiobook.

What about Janine Birkett’s performance did you like?

Yes, she keeps you interested in the characters and I could not wait to here more about their lives.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Nothing, she was very good.

Better to read the paperback

Would you try another book written by Lyn Andrews or narrated by Janine Birkett?

Would prefer to read than listen. I don't dislike Liverpool or its residents, but listening to the narrator take on the voices of young/old male/female people nearly made my ears bleed. The screeching was just too much. At least with reading, you can imagine the sounds for yourself.

Who was your favorite character and why?

Ada. She seemed to look after everyone

What three words best describe Janine Birkett’s voice?

Feel it's unfair to answer the question. She was only doing her job

If this book were a film would you go see it?

Doubt one would be made but yes, although it would be predictable, it would be enjoyable too for people who like that genre.

Totally predictable story

No surprises anywhere in this story, making it a dull tale. I struggled through to the end hoping for the unexpected but it didn't come. It was a relief to finish.

Romantic but lacking subtance

If this book wasn’t for you, who do you think might enjoy it more?

This book was not one for me - but if you are into romantic and predictable soaps I think you will enjoy it.

What could Lyn Andrews have done to make this a more enjoyable book for you?

I missed a bit of depth in the descriptions of the living conditions, the work places and the characters ... so more about real life in Liverpool during a very exciting historic period ... and a few unpredictable events would have made it better too.
