This audiobook would've greatly benefited from dual narration, in my opinion. I think it would have helped pace the narrators speed of delivery a lot, as it often felt a bit over excited (acted). I would've loved them both in their back and forth moments, to be together in my ears!🎧🫶🔥
I loved Kali and her two friends immediately. The 'Risky Business' moves to Barbie Girl by Aqua, which had me in hysterics, were priceless!😂😂
Shane/Ghost is Kali's younger brothers best friend from school who she had a crush on. Connor/Gloves is a good guy at heart, but he has ended up doing awful things, via acts of desperation, stupidity but also purely accidentally, which, of course, is no excuse, and has led him to be sent to prison for life. So Shane has returned to her life to pay a debt to Connor on behalf of his MC, the Red Demons. He refuses to say what the debt is for, but the payment is to look after his family. As Kali has unexpectedly returned and is now divorced, that also includes her as well as his mum and other sister. Ghost (Shane), as the National VP of a 1%'er Motorcycle Club, can obviously be a bad man when it's called for. But his first thoughts are automatically for his 'Brothers' and 'Club'. He's always been extremely loyal, and that clearly still stands with his friendship to Connor, as well.
All of this has Kali absolutely terrified. But her attraction to Ghost is what scares her the most.🥺 So she asks them to leave, as her favour. Not expecting her mum to beg her to rescue her sister, days later, - one last time!🙈🙄 Her friends no quibbles packing to go with her, after her rage inducing sister, was another level of loyalty and backup I wish I had in my life!🫶 So my level of understanding, but utter disappointment of what was said much later, when they were sat at a high top table in 'Manny's', was crushing!🥺
Kali and Shane turn out to be absolutely smoking hot!🔥 I loved their dynamic. That he showed her respect, proudly fell first, and wasn't embarrassed to declare it, was heart melting.🫠 He never spoke down to her or dismissed her fears and needs, I loved that!♥️ Kali initially needed his strength to remind herself of her own worth and inner strength. Plus, they had each other's backs when it mattered most!And as crazy as her sister was, I couldn't help but like her in the end. She clearly had issues but loved her big sister!🫶
You'll recognise a few people in this book from other Tijan series or standalones.😉 One plays a small but very important part in relation to this story, but is generally more of a peripheral character in her longest running series. The rest are more 'honourable mentions' with one being a 'holy sh*t no' moment. It's was quite fun figuring out who they are and which book they're from, Stripes & Tracey especially!😁
There were a few stumbling blocks for me, but I'm not sure if they're because of my brain fog.🙈😢 I don't think it was ever explained why she stayed with her ex, for instance. I also didn't understand why she wouldn't talk to her friends.🤔 I did get why she'd cut her sister out of her life for years, but not really her mum?🫣 They all clearly loved each other, so I don't know if I missed these things or if they just weren't ever explained?🤷🏻♀️
This was an exciting, steamy, tension filled, and explosive read and listen.💥🔥♥️

The first third of the book is a bit dull and a bit childish. The characters are supposed to be in their late 30s but they track more like 20 somethings. It kind of starts out as a small town, oddball, second chance romance, and turns into a thrilling, violent, ride to get the badder guys (there aren’t really any good guys in this) before the badder guys can get the not so good guys.
At the centre of this is Shane. Aka Ghost the VP of an MC, Cally the older sister of Connor (who is also the best friend of Shane) and various friends and other family. Cally wants Shane but doesn’t really understand what getting Shane actually means in reality. Shane has promised Connor that he will look after his family when Connor does his MC a favour. It’s all rather dramatic and OTT but it’s a good ride as we hop on board, riding across country to do what needs to be done. We meet some old friends along the way from other Tijan books, and it’s fun trying to remember where they came from.
I liked Cally and her two BFFs but then that goes a bit pear shaped. I didn’t like Cally’s sister but she grew on me after a while. Shane and Cally aren’t my favourite main characters, and I found it a struggle to buy into their romance. But I did enjoy the story overall.
The female narrator isn’t great. She seems to go from monotone, to overly dramatic, and she’s dreadful at male voices. I found speeding her up a bit helped. Jacob Morgan is as always fabulous, he really can’t be beaten, and manages to save the audio.
