About this listen

Following his explosive #1 New York Times bestseller, Red Notice, Bill Browder returns with another gripping thriller chronicling how he exposed Vladimir Putin's campaign to steal and launder hundreds of billions of dollars from Russia—and how Putin is willing to kill anyone who stands in his way.

When Browder’s young Russian lawyer, Sergei Magnitsky, was beaten to death in a Moscow jail in 2009, Browder cast aside his business career and made it his life’s mission to pursue justice for Sergei. One of the first steps of that mission was to uncover who had killed Sergei and profited from the $230 million corruption scheme that he had exposed. As Browder and his team tracked the money that flowed out of Russia—through the Baltics and Cyprus and on to Western Europe and the Americas—they discovered that Vladimir Putin himself was one of the beneficiaries of the crime.

After Western law enforcement agencies began freezing the money, Putin retaliated. He and his cronies set honey traps for Browder, hired agents to chase him around the globe, murdered more of Browder’s Russian allies, and enlisted some of the West’s top lawyers and politicians in an attempt to bring Browder down. Putin will stop at nothing to protect his wealth and power. As Freezing Order reveals, Browder’s campaign was a main impetus for Putin’s intervention in the 2016 US presidential election.

At once a financial caper, an international adventure, and a passionate plea for justice, Freezing Order is a stirring morality tale about how one man can take on one of the most dangerous and ruthless villains in the world.

Compelling! Every sane person on the planet has suspected Vladimir Putin of being a corrupt, power crazy thug. This book confirms what we have all though. What we didn't know is how complicit other countries, and especially banks, have been in his development!!!

An unbelievable story exposing Russia.

I've read the Muller Report and so many of the names are also mentioned there. I watch Bill Browder interviews when he is on the news. He always has something prescient to say. He has made it his life's goal. He is a huge thorn in Putins plans. Well done Bill you are making the world a safer place.

This is a book everyone should read.

An intriguing non-fiction publication that is well worth a read. The chronological style allows the reader to understand and experience the trials and tribulations of the writer and to get a flavour of the very real risks and dangers that were, and are, being faced by him and his family. The story of Putin's kleptocracy and the insidious nature of money laundering is laid bare. The uncomfortable tales of enablement from certain segments of the banking and legal professions and of some government actors shines an important light on the need for both good governance and integrity in business and in life. The rule of law must be maintained and the fight for truth and justice is an on going one. The book points to several individuals who exemplify the very best of human endeavour in the pursuit of the truth and justice. The Magnitsky legislation is an important part of that legacy but the battle goes on. The weapons of miss-information and intimidation are utilised by tyrants and oppressors and Browder provides a window for the reader into this very real world.

Another hit from Browder, as riveting and informative as Red Notice. I thoroughly enjoyed this as much as his first book!
But this audio version was almost impossible to listen to thanks to the narrator's apalling "foreign accents" and "lady voices". It set my teeth on edge everytime anyone other than an American spoke (and clearly this happens a lot). with minor variations, the narrator appears to believe all foreign people have the same accent, it set my teeth on edge, and at extremely tense moments in the book, listening to him try to sound like a Russian woman was truly, truly awful. it consistently lifted me out of the book itself.
Honestly, this extremely enjoyably book was almost entirely ruined by the narrator, to the point where I would 100% recommend the book but insist you avoid this dreadful read of it.

Great book, dreadful narration
