DISCOVER YOUR NEW CRIME THRILLER OBSESSION, SET IN THE HEART OF ENGLAND.

Meet Detective Inspector Amber Kash — she’s sharp, she’s stubborn, and after twelve years of policing she’s running out of reasons to stay on the force. But as Detective Kash is writing her resignation letter, she’s unexpectedly called to Summerfield Police Station’s interview room. Inside is celebrity psychologist Joanna Merrick, infamous for her role in viral true-crime documentary The Portrait Maker. The woman is nothing like she appears on screen. She’s dirty. She’s terrified. And she’s making an impossible claim. Three nights ago, Joanna witnessed a murder. The killer? A beautiful, rich and very dead woman whose own brutal slaying was the subject of the show. And a couple of hours later, Joanna is dead too. Detective Kash puts her resignation on hold to tackle this one last case. But a secret from her past is ticking like an unexploded bomb — threatening to destroy not just her investigation, but everything she holds dear.

The first book in the new Detective Inspector Amber Kash mystery series is perfect for fans of Ann Cleeves, Elly Griffiths, Joy Ellis, LJ Ross, and Peter James.

A multi-layered story that made me suspicious of everyone, cleverly wound together to the conclusion. I really enjoyed the listen and recommend it.

Suspicious of everyone

I got sick of her whinging on about how she was the only person who was being marginalised because of her colour, it just kept rearing it's head at every oportunity until you stopped feeling sorry for her, as I did to begin with, and empathising and just got bored by it. It detracted from a reasonable story and just mad me fed up.
So... for that reason I won't be listening to any more from Aizah Khan

I enjoyed this performance. The plot was great. Lots of unexpected twists and turns and a bit of a thriller in places. Some of the metaphors are a bit ropey but delivered with drama. Would definitely read the next one.

Great story with lots of twists and turns

Absolutely gripping story. So many twists and turns that it kept me guessing.

This is not your usual detective story, there is a touch of horror, psychological terror and folklore. It meant the novel was quite unique.

Right at the end there is a jaw dropping twist, that I did not see coming. which means I have to find out what happens in Book 2!

Very clever plot. I didn't guess until nearly the end who had 'come back from the dead'.

Loved it.
