I didn’t think I was going to enjoy this, but as it went on, I started to appreciate it in its historical context. Some of the author’s observations are scarily apt for today. As a detective novel, it was ok, a bit Boy’s Own Adventure-ish, and some of the characters were very naive. The narrator performed well.

Was looking forward to listening to this , but unfortunately the narrator was awful, why was she whispering one minute then a loud voice the next , I gave up on this book as was so hard to listen too, such a shame .

Really enjoyed this. Very much of its time with a typical Wyndham string female character (for the time). It would be interesting to know if there are any post apocalyptic novels based on gas being the main weapon of WW2 as an alternative history.
