Story
They were like a band of brothers...In 1983 Andy McNab was assigned to B Squadron, one of the four Sabre Squadrons of the SAS, and within it to Air Troop, otherwise known as SEVEN TROOP. This is Andy McNab's gripping account of the time he served in the company of a remarkable group of men - from the day, freshly badged, he joined them in the Malayan jungle, to the day, ten years later, that he handed in his sand-coloured beret and started a new life.

Best Book Ever!!!!!

Summary
Camp Bastion: SAS trooper Tom Buckingham finds himself in deep trouble for taking down a renegade Afghan soldier. Instead of being proclaimed a hero, he's made a scapegoat for the incident and drummed out of the regiment. On his return to Britain, disillusioned and embittered, Tom's unique services are quickly snapped up by charismatic entrepreneur Vernon Rolt, a powerful billionaire with political ambitions, very few scruples, and a questionable agenda.
With riot on the country's streets, a government in disarray, and a visit from the American president imminent, there has never been a better time to make a play for power. But, as Tom will soon discover, in the affairs of state, hidden forces are always at work and he is quickly drawn back into the covert world of intelligence and special forces which he knows so well.
He will have to decide where his loyalties lie and who his real friends are, if he is to intervene in a spiralling sequence of events which involve terrorism, insurgency, and, ultimately, assassination....
Fortress is Andy McNab’s most topical, hard-hitting and viscerally exciting novel to date. One man is willing the world into chaos. One man has the power to stop him and change the fate of nations.…

great addition to series
great addition to series, still prefer Nick Stone as feel there is more detail added in which reflect the writers own experiences. Tom Buckingham stories remind me of the Ben Hope series from Scott Marianni - which are also great books. the character is more of a loveable rogue/ gentle than the typical rough stuff of Nick Stone.

Should have been so much better.
Would you recommend this book to a friend? Why or why not?
I don't think I could, the are familiar McNab details like descriptions of military termanology and weapons but in this book they are not enough to carry off a story line with HUGE gaps and holes in it. Some of the characters really are non sensical and the plot feels clumsey and not very believable. Sorry - give it a miss.
Would you ever listen to anything by Andy McNab again?
Yeah, I've enjoyed a few other McNab books but I would be more careful (check out reviews etc) before buying another.
What didn’t you like about Colin Buchanan’s performance?
His accents were poor. Also the voice he chose to portray certain characters (like Sam) didn't come across very believable, he sounded different than someone with his background or supposed education would. Also he lacked punch, in action sequences he seemed to drone on, not really brining it to life.
Could you see Fortress being made into a movie or a TV series? Who would the stars be?
Could make a good TV mini series - Maybe Sean Bean as Tom.
Any additional comments?
It's not a bad story idea, current affairs etc are bang up to date BUT a poor performance from the narrator together with weak characters and gaps in the story from McNab really let the book down. In summary it feels like a lazy effort from McNab. I think I'm being kind giving 3 stars.
