About this listen

Hockey is everything. My game, my team—that's all that matters. But an accident during the playoffs leaves me sidelined and puts my future in question.

With my teammates off enjoying their vacations, my only plan this summer is to heal and come back stronger than ever. No distractions. No babysitters. I want to be left alone.

Unfortunately, Everly Kent has never cared about what I want or need.

She barges in like a storm. Stubborn, sassy, beautiful. I don't want her in my space, but she's determined to take care of me.

Before I know it, she's under my skin in the best way possible and I'm bending all my rules for her.

Including one I never thought I'd break: falling for my teammate's little sister.

This was my first Rebecca Jenshak book and found this to be an enjoyable listen. I enjoyed the tension between the characters and the love to hate vibe. The connection and their struggles felt genuine and loved them navigating their friendship to more. Everly had spunk and determination to make something for herself and loved how she went after a career and eventually followed her heart. Jack was rough but oh so tender with Everly once he started falling. A perfect mix of spice, banter, and angst.

Narrated in dual by Carly Robbins and Sebastian York. I felt they were well casted for this book and their voices worked well together and for these characters.

One of the reasons that Jack is the captain of the hockey team he plays for is his skill on the ice, the other is the way that he is always there to support those he cares about whether they are his teammates, his friends or his family. When he finds himself trying to heal from an injury, he doesn’t want any help but Everly, the sister of one of his teammates, isn’t about to let him suffer alone.

Everly is transitioning from college to starting her career but first she is going to enjoy her summer. With most of the team out of town she has agreed to keep an eye on their homes and when they are concerned about Jack him as well. One visit at a time she works in her way into his life but what will that mean as the summer draws to a close.

The friendships within the team and their families were wonderful to see as they support Jack and Everly and help them realize what will truly make them happy both when it comes to life and love. CJ Bloom was a great choice for Everly as she brought out her feisty side while Sebastian York gave us further insight to everything that Jack was feeling.

3.5 stars. This was such a fun, low angst listen. Perfect for anyone who loves an age gap, brother’s teammate, hockey romance.

I know that fans of the series have been waiting for Jack and Everly’s book. I’ll admit I wanted Jack to get his own story after the first time I met him in Wild Love. I just didn’t see Everly as his FMC after seeing her in high school in her brother’s book. There is an unspecified time jump between this and the previous books so that Everly has just graduated from college once the book starts and Jack is 32. I love how the age gap is written in that they recognize they are at different points in their life and have to work through that instead of being reminded over and over that she’s so young and he’s so old. Tyler also had one of the best brotherly reactions to finding out his teammate and sister were dating. All of the tropes in this book were handled so well.

If you haven’t read any of the other Wildcat books, or even any of Rebecca Jenshak’s other books, you can still jump into Forever Wild as a stand-alone, but there are so many fun Easter eggs if you’ve read her backlist as well as fun scenes with the entire Wildcat friend group.

I believe this is the last planned book in the Wildcats series and it does a nice job of wrapping up with the team, but there’s still one player we get to know more that I hope to see in a future series.

Narration: The audiobook is a dual narration by CJ Bloom and Sebastian York and I couldn’t think of two better narrators to cast. CJ Bloom does an amazing job as our fiery just out of college heroine and Sebastian York brings the broody and caring team captain to life.

Thanks to Home Cooked Books for my ALC copy.

Forever Wild is the fifth book in the Wildcat Hockey series. Jack Wild is the Captain of the Wildcats Hockey Team. He was driving home on a snowy day and had to swerve and wrecked his truck. Due to his accident he has shut himself away from his friends and teammates. Everly is Tyler’s little sister. Tyler is one of Jack’s teammates and neighbors. Everly just finished college and was house sitting for several of the hockey players for the summer. She got asked to go and check on Jack. At first Jack was still being a grumpy towards all of the nurses and aids coming to help him out. Then Everly slowly started forcing herself into his life and brightening his sour mood. I really loved this book! I can’t wait to see if more will come from this series.

CJ Bloom and Sebastian York did a fantastic job narrating this book.

I reread the series in the build up to Jack’s book and I fell in love with all the Wildcat guys all over again. But I knew from the moment I met Jack in Maverick’s book that he was going to be my favourite 😍

When we first see Everly and Jack in Wild About You, I assumed that there would have been secret pining between them since the start. That the reason they were always at each other’s throats was because of the tension, but I really l loved the way Rebecca wrote their story.

With Jack being the loyal captain that he is, he wouldn’t have just gone after Tyler’s sister, especially not when she was so young. It had to be an organic development, and I loved how they went from frenemies to friends to more, while Jack was healing from his injury.

Because we never saw Jack as the relationship guy, I absolutely loved seeing him so down bad for Ev! He fell hard and fast, and I loved how thoughtful and caring he was. I honestly did not expect it! Jack’s character went so much deeper than the guy I thought I knew, and I loved getting to know the real him and seeing him let Everly in and accept help for once.

We’ve witnessed Everly grow up throughout the series and I am so proud of that girl! She is so sassy, but she also has a sweet side to her. She loves her family (and her found family) and I love how much they all love her and want to protect her too! She is such a relatable character. Her struggles with starting out her career and moving away from her family, trying to please everyone while also balancing supporting everyone and also choosing things for herself. She is my favourite of the Wildcat FMCs!

This book was everything I dreamed it would be and more. It was so bittersweet reading it and closing the chapter on the Wildcats. They are truly one of my absolute favourite found families, and I had tears in my eyes when I read “To Jack” 🥹
