Summary

Foreign Enemies and Traitors is set in the near future in an America that is creeping steadily toward socialist tyranny, in the midst of the second Great Depression. A year after earthquakes have devastated the Tennessee Valley, survivors are resisting demands by the federal government to relocate to FEMA refugee centers. United States National Guard units have proven ineffective at forcing these survivors out of the earthquake-damaged regions, due to their reluctance to employ deadly force against fellow Americans. As a result, the president has invited so-called foreign peacekeeping battalions to do the work of forcibly relocating the holdouts. The novel follows a small group of determined survivors in their resistance to the foreign enemies, and the American traitors who are their allies.

A Great Trilogy That Kept Getting Better!

What made the experience of listening to Foreign Enemies and Traitors the most enjoyable?

The story is IMO, the best dytopian fiction written to date, and I have read all of the top 100 plus books of this genre. It is realistic, believable, exciting, and well written. It culminates the Trilogy and pulls all of the pieces and charecters together. This third book was more than 20 hours long and I drug out the last few hours because I hated for it to end.

What did you like best about this story?

The story started in Book 1 and was frighteningly plausable, and the charectors were real life and when put into their situations acted in a realistic manner... they were informed, the story put their life experience to work, and they improvised as they went. It made me feel that Americans have the will, the knowledge and the ability to match their circumstances and prevail. Not always win, not without heartache and loss, but Yankee ingenuity can win out. This book can be read stand-alone without reading 1 and 2 but why? You'll just go and buy them anyway once you get started in this...

Have you listened to any of Mike Kemp’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

I have listened to and enjoyed all three of Mike Kemp's Audible offerings, all with this trilogy. He has a rich (baritone?) voice with a bit of southern gentleman accent. To his credit he does not try to switch voices to sound like a woman or other changes in tone to separate charectors and the book is written in a manner that doesn't require it. His tone, volume and manner of speaking do vary as needed for emphasis and right as they should. I also have the hard copy and Mr. Kemp's performance is virtuallt flawless. His performance was good in book 1 and got even better as he went forward through Book 2 and very good in Book 3. I am very grateful to Mike Kemp for his narration, because of him we have more than 70 hours of Matt Bracken's excellent Enemies Foreign and Domestic Trilogy done well.

If you could take any character from Foreign Enemies and Traitors out to dinner, who would it be and why?

I would take Ranya Bardiwell out to dinner to any restaurant she wanted. She is intelligent, practical, very well trained, determined and principled way beyond most men or women, and... she is young, beautiful, a couragious Mother and Patriot, and she can outshoot most guys what is not to love about this woman?

Any additional comments?

Having this book and the entire Trilogy of Enemies Foreign and Domestic on audio is the best gift I've given to myself in years... I enjoy it because it is an excellent story and more... I learn from it, from Matt Bracken, a real deal SEAL who has actually been there and done that and wrote about what is happening and may yet happen in our country. It is eerie how prescient his Trilogy is... it is coming too true, too quickly. It is an excellent value. Buy it. Read it, you'll be glad you did!

Every American needs to read this.

This book, along with the other books in this trilogy, is, hands down, the most important work of fiction any American can read. I could say the same for our European neighbors, as they seem to be fast tracked to the events contained in these books as well. Well done, Mr. Bracken. Mr. Kemp, thank you for taking so much time for the narration of this series.

Thought provoking

This Trilogy was really a good story. I really enjoyed it. The performance could have been a little better but I got use to Mr Kemp’s style. And it wasn’t a problem at all. I will download more of Mr Brackens work!

Great Trilogy, Not so great Narrator

This Trilogy is intriguing. It makes you think, What If? I almost didn’t get the second and third books because the narrator was so bad, but the plot was really well done. I don’t mind the southern drawl, but the monotone voice was almost too much to take. If and hopefully when the 4th book comes out, they will use a different narrator.
