About this listen

E. J. Dales really delights us readers/listeners with his new title, Forbidden Shadows. The characters are incredibly realistic (with some veritable teenager scenes that were all too memorable) and narrated in such a way that each character truly seems unique. The dark themes in the story are also given enough time to unfold and enough time for the characters to process these traumas and find ways to heal.
The Phantom Prophet mystery also really intrigued me and there were a few moments that I truly did not expect; suffice to say there were not a light punch to the gut.
James does an amazing job narrating as well and shows real passion in his performance and true acting skills that made me jump or cry on a few occassions.
The song at the end was also a treat and really added to the world-building.
Truly amazing book, I couldn't recommend it more!
