Summary

How can my enemy want me when no one else ever has?

Oil and water. Shifters and mages. There are certain things that just don’t mix. But I’m in Porter’s Peak for a reason, and I’m not about to let a pack of wolves drive me away. And I’m certainly not going to fall into bed with the alpha...not even if he says we’re fated mates.

But evil magic is swirling around town, and the only way to keep my new home safe is to team up with the alluring older shifter and try to find the cause of the problems. As we grow closer, my resolve to stay out of his arms is slipping. No one has cared about me enough to stick around before...why should I trust an old enemy to be any different?

But evil magic is not the only problem, and when secrets threaten to tear us apart, we might bring the whole town down with us. Can we put aside ancient hatred and forge a new path? Or is our bond doomed from the start?

The Magic and Claws series features shifters and mages coming together and finding their mates. There is no MPREG.

Enemies to lovers, fated mates

Great start to a new series. Leo and Zac were great characters who initially clashed because their respective groups have fostered mutual disrespect and even hatred towards one another. I love this new world filled with magic, mages, shifters, mystery along with plenty of action and danger as both groups have to work together to defeat a common enemy. New to me narrator did a great job of bringing these characters to life.

Interesting new series!

As a fan of Liam Kingsley and Jill Haven, to read this book 1 in a new series was a must especially when in audio. The amazing plot, opened a whole new world of shifters, mages and fated love in between action, intrigue, some mysteries, a feud and a lot of danger. Leo and Zac's story kept me at the edge of my seat throughout the book until the very end. The audiobook's format gave the story a plus as the wonderful voice acting of Mr Whimpey and his charismatic performance really brought the characters alive. Simply wonderful!

Nice Kick-off to the series

Liam Kingsley and Jill Haven did a great job with the start of the series. BJ Whimpey did a brilliant job with the narration. A series to keep an eye out for, luckily book 2 is already available. This book was given to me for free at my request and I provided this voluntary review.

Enemies to lovers with nice variations

I love the enemies to lovers trope and I love a good story about mages and their work so this was right up my alley. I have read lots of other books by this pair of authors and enjoyed them all. This was no exception. The MCs were very well drawn and their dislike for each other at the beginning was deep enough that you did question how they would overcome that and get together even though they had a fated mates bond. I liked the amount of time the authors took to get them together, I found the threat believable and scary and I enjoyed meeting a new pack and starting to learn about a new world. These authors are good at world building and demonstrate that skill again here. They introduce their worlds in pieces and let you figure some things out on your own, or make educated guesses before giving you all the information. Thankfully, they also never just dump huge gobs of information on you. They let information flow naturally from the plot and from conversations characters have with each other. Looking forward to more in this series. This was a new voice actor for me and I liked him very much. Pacing was good, characters were distinct and all the emotions were spot on. Hope he does the rest of the series.

Good enemies to lover story

A new series featuring mages and werewolves. Zac and Leo were interesting characters, I liked the premise of the story - 2 paranormals that need to band together for the greater good, even if they don't like or trust each other. The story execution is good - kept me engaged throughout. This narrator is new to me - I think he did a good job with the narration overall. There some characterisations I didn't really feel, but didn't detract from my enjoyment. Would listen to him again :)

Nice first in a shifters/mages paranormal series

I really enjoyed this first in a series about shifters and mages coming together – in more ways than one – in a small Maine town. There is a nice balance here between plot and romance, and just enough backstory to set it all up. I would definitely continue with this series. The narration by BJ Whimpey was pleasant and nuanced.

Love the story and want more

I loved this story and the characters. There is so much angst and drama from the very start with Zac and his foster family. Then, just as things start to look up and Zac thinks he has found a home, his future and happiness are side-tracked by lies, secrets, and dark magic. Can he learn to trust the wolves when he is a mage and the two groups have long been at odds? Is love possible with the Alpha wolf Leo, or will the past tear them apart? Truly, I love the world here, with magic, and tethers to keep the mage grounded. A unique and entertaining view. That said, and in spite of rating it five stars, I felt like the authors were a bit clumsy with the big conflict between Leo and Zac. With Leo knowing how Zac had felt betrayed by one close to him keeping secrets from him, and with their bond as fated mates, I could not buy that Leo would knowingly make the same stupid mistake. There must have been another way to bring drama if more was needed. Personally, I think the drama with the dark mages was enough. Still, I enjoyed the story, and I am really looking forward to seeing Dylan find his tether, and maybe his mate. The narration is great, and raises an already fantastic book to another level. I loved the expression of emotion, especially from Zac. I received a complimentary copy of this audiobook and am voluntarily leaving this honest review.

Enjoyed

I enjoyed this new series as we are introduced to Porter’s Peak and meet a growly but protective Leo and Zac who has trust issues especially against shifters. Enjoyed the sparks between as they work sort out who is after Zac.

A Magical Gay Fantasy

This was a pretty simple fantasy story. Kinda like Harry Potter meets Twilight meets 50 Shades of Grey. Being a big Star Wars / Marvel nerd myself, I totally dug the magic story. I guess my only complaint with this book was I really wanted to know more how the magic worked. In the Harry Potter universe, there seemed to be rules or technical details regarding magic. But all that's sorta glossed over in this story because the focus is solely on Leo and Zach's relationship. And that story doesn't disappoint. When I was a kid, my mom used to read all these Harlequin Romance novels. I used to make fun of her for doing that. But until I listened to this book, I guess I never knew what kind of erotic scenarios could come out of these books. Added to the fact that the narrator, BJ Whimpey, expertly draws the listener into each scene. Whether it's sexual or fantasical, the reader should have a great time listening to either.

A tale of heart and passion

I loved listening to this book on my commute. I was fully invested in the story line with lots of verbal reactions to the passion and intensity of the story. I found myself engaged in every chapter with a gripping curiosity of what was to happen next. The narrations by BJ Whimpey were absolutely phenomenal. He had a beautiful way of creating each character with a slight change of his voice. I didn’t even realize it was the same person for every character. It felt as though he was the character and knew their struggles and thoughts from just the sound of his voice. His voice was also just the right amount of sexy for Leo and I loved every second of it.

Narration was good but story needed Help

This is the first book in The Magic & Claws Series. This book didn’t work for me it was inconsistent and needed more detail and information. Zac and Leo are the MC’s of this book and mates. The narration was good and did help the story. I voluntarily read an advance copy of this book for an honest review.

Great New Series

I received an ARC of this audio for my honest review. I just fell in love with Leo & Zac. I love a enemies to lovers story. Leo had a hard time accepting that Zac was his mate. BJ Whimpey does a great job narrating the story.

Not a bad series

I enjoyed the book and it had some good moments, it is typical Liam style. But like usual I am interested in the overall plot line and how it will go. The narrator kept my attention and definitely did a good job of bringing a picture for me.

Forbidden Magic

3.5 rounded up It's a first in the series, so a good but of setting up with a decent storyline. The narration is alright, not going on the best or worst list. I'm on the dense about continuing or not. If you're a Kingsley fan or of similar authors, you'll definitely enjoy.

Forbidden Magic

This was a really great start to a series! There was so much angst and passion I didn’t want to stop listening to this once I started. This author and narrator combo did an amazing job with this world and bringing these characters to life! I enjoyed this so much and I can’t wait to listen to other books by this author. I really enjoyed these characters and their journey. Though there were a few times I wanted to scream because of the angst.
