About this listen

Lucy Christopher’s debut novel Stolen was an international hit and was recognized with a Printz Honor. In Flyaway, Christopher crafts a touching novel about hope, friendship, and family. When her father collapses from heart problems and is taken to the hospital, 13-year-old Isla is racked with guilt and fear. She was the one who insisted her father take her out that morning to look at the wild swans, and now she could lose him forever. But then she meets Harry, a boy with leukemia, who seems to understand her like no one else. Together, Isla and Harry embark on a quest to save a swan that cannot fly - and discover that perhaps miracles really can happen.

Challenging subject matter- sensitively told.

In a fast-moving & technological world- this is a modern day romance -unashamedly and refreshingly innocent.
An absolute must for anyone who has ever been moved by nature.

uplifting and deeply romantic

Once again, Lucy Christopher crafts a wonderful story around a touching father-daughter relationship. Saying that, I don't know which came first - "Flyaway" or "Storm-Wake" which was the first book by Christopher I fell in love with. I needed a little bit longer to warm up to "Flyaway", mainly because there were so many mundane details and whole paragraphs that felt a bit unnecessary, but once I got into it properly, there was no going back. The story developed into a beautiful mix of mundane & magical with a dash of dreaminess all about it. The narration was masterfully done - it was also really refreshing to hear a Northern accent instead of the standard Southern British English. All in all, I loved it to bits :)
