About this listen

No one in town has ever seen anything like it: a slimy, mobile tube of glistening yellow flesh with dull, staring eyes and an obscene, probing mouth. But the real horror is not what it looks like, or what it does when it invades your flesh - but what it makes you do to others.

As a story it was ok. A little on the trite side maybe. The one thing I'm hoping for with the next audio book I listen to (not from this author), is not to hear the word "breasts"!! At all!! With "nipples" running a close second! I'm far from being a feminist, and certainly no prude; but to hear the word at least 3 or 4 times a chapter (at least) is just a little irritating. Could Mr Laymon not have found other nouns to use during his frequent and often detailed descriptions? Ah well - guys you're going to love it!!

Definitely written with fellas in mind!

Classic and typical Laymon - an easy listen but acquired taste. Very male oriented but does create some unique characters. Narrator did a decent job for the first two thirds - not as 'robotic' as some listeners have said - but by the final third of the book (or maybe sooner...), his female voices will most definitely grate on you.

Otherwise, if Laymon is your thing, 'Flesh' won't disappoint.

Typical Laymon, average narrator

while i love James Herbert, it was not the greatest to listen to. It was very 'tinny' as if the narrator was in a metal room. It was also very mono-tone in parts. Sounded almost as if it were an AI production, only that occasional the narrators voice changed for different characters.

A giod story

Laymon brings B-movie, fast paced gore, great story telling, lots of sex and POV's from characters that make them leap from the page. He seems to have a strange obsession with them taking showers tho...
You can't beat Laymon, everything a 14 year old horny adolescent with a love of horror needs, and that's when I first discovered his books. Epic fun!

I first read "Flesh" almost 15 years ago and decided enough time had passed so I could listen to the audio version. For fans of the genre it is classic Laymon, fast paced, little exposition, full of gore and sex and strong female lead.

My biggest issue with this audible presentation though is the narration, it took me almost three weeks to get through as it sounded like the sentences had been computer generated, characterisations were terrible and at one stage I thought part of the chapter was missing as it ended so abruptly. So disappointing and I would definitely not purchase if you're wanting to start listening to Richard Laymon, he will be turning in his grave.

In short a good story ruined by a terrible narration.
