About this listen

I wrote a fair number of poems in my younger days, saved and placed in a folder titled “King Among the Prawns”. Now that I’m self-publishing my more recent books, I decided to let these out for a ramble.

Some of them I'm quite proud of, and some are fairly naff. They exist as a window on a time in my life when I was näive but learning. Along with these are a second batch, inspired by the trauma and after-effects of my brain hemorrhage and stroke in 2009, and a mental health poetry group I was introduced to shortly after my stroke; great therapy!

Some of the things I wrote I still cling to, some I have discarded now as I have gained in age. Many of us would wish to sit down with our younger self and have a good talk, wouldn’t we? I offer these as my samples of thought, of a man, both young and older.
