About this listen

Private investigator Charlotte Davidson was born with three things: looks; a healthy respect for the male anatomy; and the rather odd job title of grim reaper. Since the age of five, she has been helping the departed solve the mysteries of their deaths so they can cross. Thus, when three lawyers from the same law firm are murdered, they come to her to find their killer.

In the meantime, Charley's dealing with a being more powerful—and definitely sexier—than any spectre she's ever come across before. With the help of a pain-in-the-ass skip tracer, a dead pubescent gangbanger named Angel, and a lifetime supply of sarcasm, Charley sets out to solve the highest profile case of the year and discovers that dodging bullets isn't nearly as dangerous as falling in love.

I'm most of the way through and the story has been interesting so far and I'm really enjoying it, however I'm considering giving up simply because the side characters voices are almost all high pitched and shouting. The main female and male characters are given nice normal sounding voices by the narrator which i really like, but cookie and almost all the additional side characters are all done in a nasally shouting tone that's also louder than the main characters, so I have to listen to all those scenes on the lowest volume and it's still really hard to listen to. I've ended up skipping some dialogue where they are talking with the main character as it's just like being hit with a verbal battering ram every other line. listening to the scene with both cookie and the shouting news headlines on the main male character just made me stop entirely. maybe I'll try the written book instead.

loved the story, but side character voices very shouty and painful

I am a huge fan of this series. I don't have anything negative to say about the story which is original and unique. Sometimes the narrator is overboard with the "attitude", but I guess the Grim Reaper would be, not sure about every one else though.

I have read the whole Charlie Davidson series several times. It’s an absolutely wonderful story beautifully told. I was delighted to see the first book in the series was available on Audible. Unfortunately, although I am sure in most cases the narrator can do a good job, I was very disappointed with the narration of this book. Most of the characters seem over aggressive and loud. I am sure that uncle Bob and Cookie shouldn’t be shouting all of the time. The way I heard it Charlie came across as arrogant instead of sassy and fun. Please tone it down.

Fabulous story.

I absolutely love everything Darynda Jones writes, I’ve read this series at least twice and was BEYOND thrilled to see it had an audiobook. But, unfortunately, I couldn’t finish the audiobook. I understand the narrator is trying to differentiate between different characters, however every one (bar Charlie) seems to be shouting all the time. I truly hope the other books will be narrated in duet, as let’s be honest, Reyes deserves nothing less - that man is pure fire!!

INCREDIBLE story
