I'm most of the way through and the story has been interesting so far and I'm really enjoying it, however I'm considering giving up simply because the side characters voices are almost all quite high and the tone is a bit like shouting. i really like the main narration tone and the main female and male characters are given nice normal sounding voices by the narrator which i really enjoy listening to, but cookie and uncle bob and the additional side characters are mainly quite often done in a surprised sounding shouting tone that's also louder than the main characters, so I have to keep changing the volume up and down or listen to all those scenes on the lowest volume making it hard to listen to. I've ended up skipping some dialogue where they are talking with the main character as it's just hard on my ears. listening to the scene with both cookie and the shouting news headlines describing the past of the main male character just made me stop. Just felt i wish I'd known this before starting as it's not something you hear in the sample so wanted to warn people who are similarly sensitive to such things. it's hard because i really like the story and main voices, may personally try the written books instead as the story is great.

theses are fab books, but the narration is really bad, forcing myself to stick with it and finish the book as audible aint cheap put its proving hard, the over acting and shouty characters really dont do the story justice

There’s always an adjustment when listening to a narrator who sounds so different to a character you’ve read but I’m sorry to say this narrator just doesn’t have the voice acting skills to do this book series justice. I could’ve gotten past her erratic portrayal of the main female character, Charley however, her shouty portrayal of the vital (& beloved) supporting characters of Cookie and Uncle Bob was jarring and unpleasant. I don’t think the narrator has a great range of character voices but using loudness to differentiate characters should’ve been flagged by either the editor or producer as a bad choice. I’ve listened to over a thousand books and this was the first time it was unpleasant to listen to parts of a story. It’s unfair to compare a young narrator to an experienced voice actor but I feel extremely disappointed that these beloved books are being re-recorded by someone who lacks the skills, experience & production to make them shine. Lorelie King narrated the series originally and I wish those books were still on audible as she’s a wonderful voice actor. I recommend reading the books instead as they’re wonderful.

I am a huge fan of this series. I don't have anything negative to say about the story which is original and unique. Sometimes the narrator is overboard with the "attitude", but I guess the Grim Reaper would be, not sure about every one else though.

I have read the whole Charlie Davidson series several times. It’s an absolutely wonderful story beautifully told. I was delighted to see the first book in the series was available on Audible. Unfortunately, although I am sure in most cases the narrator can do a good job, I was very disappointed with the narration of this book. Most of the characters seem over aggressive and loud. I am sure that uncle Bob and Cookie shouldn’t be shouting all of the time. The way I heard it Charlie came across as arrogant instead of sassy and fun. Please tone it down.
