About this listen

Ellie Abela’s life has been anything but easy. Tragedy follows her wherever she goes, and she’s been a lot of places. At 20, she’s lived in over 10 different states, all because of her dad’s career in medical research. His career is just another list of the causes of tragedies in El’s life. He’s dying, and with every breath he takes closer to Heaven, Ellie dies a little bit inside, too.

At 12, she lost her mom in a drunk driving accident, and in a matter of months she fears she’ll lose the last person she has in the world to cancer.

While Ellie’s life has been rife with sadness, Trent Wentworth’s has been a challenge. A drug-addicted mom and a dead-beat dad meant at 23, he was the adoptive father of his two-year-old sister. Now at 25, he’s working his way up the corporate ladder and a struggling single parent.

Each is searching for a cure to the things in their lives dragging them down.

Not all cures are black and white; not all cures save us - and sometimes, saving isn’t what we need. Sometimes, we just need to realize how lucky we are to be alive, at least for this moment.

This is a lovely, gentle, heartfelt story of deeply felt love, seen in different guises. Father for daughter, daughter for father, and that between two beautiful souls Ellie and Trent. Cassandra Giovanni ably conveys this love and it is beautifully translated into the spoken word by Kaye Anderson. There are a lot of tears to be shed, but there is so much hope and genuine feeling that you do not end up with that hollow feeling. Rather you feel a sense of joy at participating in a story which encapsulates so much devotion and hope.💖💖

This book was so touching! I loved the characters, I loved the storyline... the writing was well rounded and clear.

Ellie lost her mother in a car accident, her family moves around a lot so she never made many friends, and now her father is dying of the disease he worked so hard to find a cure for for so many years.

Trent has had a hard life, his mother has drug issues and his dad is a dead beat. He adopted his sister (Allie) when she was a baby because his mother could not take care of her. His father has come around a few times thinking if he has Allie he will get money from the state to take care of her.

Trent and Ellie meet in the bookstore he manages. They date and fall for each other. This entire story grabbed me and made me want to listen more. It was so worth the time to listen and you will love it!!!

Cassandra Giovanni did such a great job when writing this book and developing the characters and storyline.

Kaye Anderson was a perfect choice of narrators!!!

An amazing story of love and loss... of family lost and family found

Just warning a box of tissues will be needed.

This is a great story! Trent, single ”dad” to his younger sister Allie really stepped up in this wonderful heart-wrenching story.

But by helping Ellie see that when she thought her world would end with her fathers passing, life does still go on. There are a lot of life lessons learned through this wonderful book.

You can hear in the narrator Kaye Anderson's voice, that even she was struggling with the words that were so beautifully written. She is an amazing narrator, she really feels everything the characters are feeling and portrays it perfectly.

Touching, sad, emotionally charged this story deals with a subject that is hard to handle for some, so don’t go into this book lightly.
The storyline was well mastered by this author. Know matter the age the death of a loved one can be devastating, but this author plotted out away to ensure the heroines life would be a happy one after the demise. Ingenious.
I received a copy of this audible book for a fair and honest review.

I enjoyed this tearjerker of a beautiful story. Ellie has already cope with so much loss at such a young age, and Trent, he's just amazing. I can emphasize with Ellie because I've lived her reality. I loved how the Author did justice to such devastating circumstances. First time Author and Narrator for me and I enjoyed both. Kayak Anderson did a wonderful job bringing this book to life. This audiobook was given to me in exchange for an honest review.
