  • Summary

  • Please note: this series contains adult themes, explicit language and references to child abuse and suicide. Listener discretion is advised.

It started with an anonymous post in 2017. They called themselves 'Q' and left a trail of cryptic messages for an increasing number of followers to obsess over. Over the years, the conspiracy theory became a movement, crashing into mainstream politics and breaking countless families along the way.

Over this investigation, journalist Nicky Woolf dives into the online and offline world of QAnon in his search to find the shadowy figure behind it all and the legacy they've created.

Gripping

This is a beautifully made podcast, that really highlights the human cost of conspiracy theories. The hunt for Q itself is totally gripping and Enthralling (I finished the whole series in 2 days). Finding Q finds the perfect balance of humour and depth. It’s one of the best podcasts I’ve listened to in years, and I really hope it receives the attention it deserves.

Q-rious and Q-riouser

What a riveting investigation. Nicky and the team have done a wonderful job in bringing to light a shadowy part of the web where mere normies fear to tread. The series had the potential to be heavy-going but is leavened by Nicky's passion, humour, and refreshing honesty about what he has learned along the way. A particularly touching moment comes when he catches sight of the real, human cost of conspiracy theories, where individuals connected to Q followers have been unwittingly drawn into a live-action roleplay against their will. Their stories are respectfully acknowledged, with snippets of interviews with various family members of Q casualties.

The series is narrated with care and clarity, with some terrific descriptions of characters met along the way. Complemented by a positively Matrixesque soundtrack, the effect is vivid and visceral. The pulse quickens as towards the end Nicky finally catches up with the near-mythic personages at the head of the Q movement - my heart was in my mouth for much of the recordings on the ground. Scintillating stuff.

A word on the production: breathtaking. The story is easy to follow - big gobs of Blu Tack and bright red string - an incredible weave of soundbites and voice acting (an especially nice touch in modifying the "voice" of Q to give it shades of operatic, demonic grandiosity, perfectly capturing the affected lure for online followers), and the kind of intuitive side-kick swiftness that allows Nicky by turns to give chase to inspiration and to take stock in the aftermath - the series is beautifully paced.

An important piece of journalism that will not fail to enthral and entertain.

Brilliant

Gripping, tense, enlightening. Brilliantly produced. Other podcasts have dabbled with the subject matter (e.g. Reply All, This American Life), but this dives deep into the crazy world of the Qanon Conspiracy. Worth every second of your time

Who is Q?

An interesting and thoughtful podcast that sheds some light on this most perplexing of phenomena ... the propagation of a cult in plain sight, facilitated and ably assisted by the social media platforms we all subscribe to.
I would steer people in the direction of 'The Storm is Upon Us' by Mike Rothschild to fill in some of the gaps that are here but, overall, this is a really well produced and entertaining overview of the QAnon conspiracy umbrella (simply because it involves rolling EVERY conspiracy theory into one!) ... highly recommended if only for the testimony of a former disciple of Q ...

Establishment claptrap

Q-Anon might have merit or not.

The problem with this nonsense is that the author doesn't care either way.

His only goal is to achieve validation from like-minded people that he's smarter than everyone else: A typical virtue-signaling goldfish.

Really liked it

My wife and I have been listening to this as we were driving around on holiday and it's been great! It's a very interesting story, it sometimes goes a bit off piste - but it's always a good listen - recommend it

Had me gripped

Really interesting and well paced. Didn't know much about Q Anon going into this, but this had me hooked the entire way through, like a good thriller.

Gripping

Haven't got as much out of a podcast since the first series of Serial. I think the only thing that could have been explored more is the relationship with wider support for Trump.
