About this listen

In the heart of Lincoln Park, Chicago, where the city’s vibrant pulse meets the calm of nature, there’s Nevaeh—a young woman caught in life’s noise. Like so many of us, she’s grappling with the question that tugs at the core of existence: Who am I? Feeling more adrift than ever, Nevaeh hears about a Philosopher named Joe Bandra, known simply as “J.” It is believed that he’s cracked the code of existence, uncovered life’s secrets, and lives a simple, insightful existence by Salem Lakes, just outside Antioch, Illinois. J is somewhat of an unconventional philosopher with a relaxed presence, known for his piercing clarity in seeing through life’s illusions. Nevaeh places a phone call to The Philosopher and receives an invitation to visit.

With no other path calling, Nevaeh boards a train, hopeful that this stranger might help her make sense of the chaos within. Stepping off the train, she finds J waiting, his smile warm and strangely familiar, like a friend she hasn’t met yet. He’s not what she expected—sharp-eyed, radiating calm, and driving a classic Rolls Royce that speaks of a “sage with style.” They drive to his lakeside home, a place brimming with books and artifacts from around the world. As they settle by the water, Nevaeh lets it all spill out—her search for identity, the tug-of-war between her mind and emotions. The Philosopher listens quietly, offering no quick fixes, only a patience that feels endless.

This is Nevaeh’s journey—a young woman stepping into the unknown, seeking the truth behind the layers of who she believes she is. It’s a story for all of us, really, as we each confront our own versions of that timeless question: Who am I? As her path unfolds, Nevaeh starts to see that beneath all the mental noise lies a deeper truth—one that connects beyond the mind’s chatter into something unified, something whole. And through her journey, we will see a mirror of our own quest for meaning.
