Summary

Trent

How do you go home when home is gone?

I’ve paid my dues for protecting someone I love. In return my family, my life, and my freedom - all have been taken from me.

When a friend calls in a favor, I go from nothing...to having a job and a place to live.

A fresh start brings something more - a woman who brings out my protective instincts. She's been hurt - it's written all over her.

There's one thing for sure, I want her. And I vow that nothing will ever harm her again.

Michelle

I've hit rock bottom, and I've slowly climbed my way back up. Now, I keep myself locked away. It's easier than letting people in and telling them about that night.

I live my life in the shadows because happiness is something that I can't have.

I keep my pain where it belongs, in the past. I keep my secrets buried deep down. Now, my past is colliding with my future, and I'm not sure how I'm going to survive.

But in the midst of the darkness is a shining light: Trent. Sometimes, you find home in the place you least expect it.

There is no place like home

My first KL Humphrey's book and I was drawn in and captivated by this story. It's not your typical love story, but deals with real life issues compassionately giving awareness to important problems. We meet Trent, fresh out from a 5 year jail sentence is off to watch out for Michelle. Michelle, the daughter of his cellmate has a lot of issues, and a guardian angel is just what she needs. And from here, a beautiful relationship begins. But will he be able to fulfill his mission? Humphreys weaves a tale that is a little dark, has some triggers, but is on point with so many relevant issues. From rape, to stalking, to murder, we have a line of suspense that keeps you on the edge. Inside this, we get to see the history, the breakdowns, the heartache and guilt that is carried. It's emotionally raw, and beautiful all at the same time. I love books that give us awareness to current problems, and let us learn while being entertained. It's a gift that I love. It's a fantastic story of coming alive, learning to forgive and giving love. The narration of this is key. It needs narrators that can understand the depth and minds of the characters and the casting of this is impeccable. Steve Campbell shines as Trent. He is a little rough around the edges, but Campbell lets his tenderness and love come through. Sarah Puckett is a master at getting into character, and she pulls all the stops with Michelle. The pain, the guilt, the love all are present in her performance. This is an emotionally driven story and these two brought it all to life with their amazing portrayal.

This story is about Michelle finding herself, trying to keep herself together after tragedy when she was a teen. She has strong determination, love by her friends and neighbors. She has suffered loss in her.life , that she has a hard time getting.over. Trent enters her life after being released from prison. She gives him a chance to make it back into society. His concern, would he be accepted? will he find happiness? Will Michelle and the people in the apartment building, trust him? Steve Campbell and Sarah Puckett are excellent narrators, they told the story with so much emotion. 🎧AudiobookObsessionReviewer🎧

Finding a great story

This is my first story of the authors . This author wrote a story that most hardly touch. It will grab your heart and you will hear it till the very end . Hero is Trent Heroine is Michelle. Both Trent and Michelle have hit rock bottom but for different reasons. They both have nowhere to hit but up . Trent has spent 5 yrs in prison, once he gets out he needs to rebuild his life , a job , a home . Trent was in prison to protect his family. He paid a step price . Michelle herself paid a high price for a single night. When Trent and Michelle get together do they save each other Love Steve Campbell performance on this story. Like Sarah also put she’s not my favourite. The voices are strong and clear and smooth

Absolutely loved this audiobook. A must listen to.

What an emotional journey of two damaged souls and an unique group of friends that become and are their family! This story is so beautifully written and narrated. The characters are realistic and will steal your hearts. There will also be some which you absolutely loathe. When family members turned against Trent he ended up in prison, now he gets a second chance working for Michelle. Michelle also had parents that didn't protect her. She is a caring person but fails to see the love of her friends. Their romance is so heartwarming, but filled with perils. The narrators are perfect and immediately capture the listener's attention. I could tell that they put their hearts into the narration. I could close my eyes and picture the story. They are voice artists and highly talented storytellers. I highly recommend this Audible book. It's one that I will listen to again. It's a story that you want to know the ending, but you hate for it to end.

So Much More Than a Love Story

Wow, just wow. Finding Home is a complex story that feels real, so frighteningly real. While there is love and passion, there is so much more. There are no cookie cutter characters in this story. You get the sense that these are real people, real imperfect people, some good, some not so good, and a few absolutely horrific. The main two characters have seen hell and have suffered because of the misguided actions of those who should have loved and protected them. It is not a story to be taken lightly. The narration is superb. The characters voiced are so heartfelt that the raw emotion will sear your soul. I am so glad I listened to it, and once some time passes, I will absolutely listen to it again.

3.5 ☆ story, 4.5 ☆ performance, 4 ☆ overall

This was the first book I've read/listened to by K.L. Humphreys. It was a touching story with main characters that had been through major tragedies. The heroine was fighting depression and suicide, not seeing the people around her who loved her. There were many. The storyline was interesting and I enjoyed the characters. At one point, I was tearing up and at other times I smiled. It had a sweet HEA. There was quite a bit of repeating. If the editor had tightened up some of the details, it would have been better. This book was recorded in dual narration. Steve Campbell did a good job. Sarah Puckett is a favorite narrator of mine. Once again, her performance was perfection. #AudiobookObsessionReviewer

Awesome Story & Narration 🎧 Heartfelt & Intense!

Wow, this a fantastic book, the story not only grabbed my attention, it grabbed my heart as well. K.L. Humphreys is a gifted author, she created interesting and original storylines and her characters are realistic, easy to relate to and connect with. I adored the two lead characters, Trent and Michelle, each grew up in a dysfunctional family and had their own inner demons to deal with. Trent attempt at trying to protect his sister cost him five years of his life and his family. He had nothing but then an unexpected friend helps him out and has someone set him up with a job and a place to live. That someone was Michelle, she owns an apartment building and needed a handy man and was asked to help Trent out. She winds up getting more than a handy man, she gets someone who gives her a new lease on life. She has been living her life without really living and Trent draws her out of herself, has her open her eyes to see what she has in life. This is a will written book that is beautifully plotted, the story contains a lot of heartfelt and emotional moments, some heart-rending and gut-wrenching ones too. I loved how everything plays out, how the author brings up the past, brings the past into current times, also loved the surprising and unexpected twists. She also did a great job covering mental health issues, keeping it all real. In addition to a whole lot of heart in this book there is plenty of drama, some mystery, some thrilling suspense and a wonderful romance. I thought Trent and Michelle were perfect together and for each other. These two overcame so much, it shows you that you can not allow an incident or a mistake define you or run your life and ruin it. K.L. Humphreys, thank you for the wonderful story and emotional rollercoaster ride. 🎧📚🎧 And for the wonderful narration, Steve Campbell and Sara Puckett are awesome narrators and versatile voice artists. They brought these characters to life, humanized them, giving each their own voice and personality. You could hear how much heart they put into their work as they capture the characters emotions and project them into their performance. Steve Campbell played Trent’s role with perfection and Sara Puckett did the same for Michelle, they took each role and made it their own. They are entertaining storytellers and a pleasure to listen to. Thank you for this awesome listen🎧

Emotion bleeds through every page.

Emotion bleeds through every page. Finding Home has pain deep enough to drown in. Humphreys finds beauty in the heartache. Michelle and Trent pull at you with their pain and inspire you with their redemption. Raw, unpredictable, unbelievable and emotional are pain out for all to see. Campbell and Puckett find strength in daring to be vulnerable and finding hope in times of hopelessness.

this book is for the female audience

first of, I enjoyed this book immensely, don't get me wrong. it's just a fact that it's geared towards the female reader/listener. this is seen in both the story, the plot and the dialogue... I can't give many examples without spoiling but something like the fact that all intimate scenes are from the male perspective shows this... the story is great and the book actually tells a story that just happens to have romance in it, it's not just a crutch as an excuse to write steamy scenes. the ending actually had me tearing up, just to show how attached I got to these characters... Sarah and Steve have been my favourite pairing for a long time and this book only solidifies it further, they compliment each other amazingly.

Finding Home!

Finding home is the story of two people who meet at a time in their lives when they need each other the most. Michelle Allows Trent to live at her apartment building after he is released from jail as a favor to her father who was Trent’s cell mate for five years. Trent and Michelle both have troubled pasts and find solace in each other, Trent protects Michelle from an obsessive tenant who has been stalking her and then helps her overcome her past trauma. This book is raw and emotional at times, Trent and Michelle’s romance is very sweet and they are both very supportive of each other, I enjoyed the suspense and the story had a couple of really good plot twists. I did think it was a bit unrealistic that Michelle and the other tenants from her building pretty much instantly accepted Trent into their lives after he was released from jail I would have like to see a bit more of a build up to these relationships.
