1978: Meet Morris Bellamy the man who robs the safe of America's most famous reclusive writer John Rothstein. But it isn't just the money he is interested in. Morrie is obsessed by the author's notebooks and is prepared to kill the author for them.

2009: Meet young Pete Saubers whose father was knocked down by an out-of-control Mercedes in a job line-up. When he discovers a buried trunk of money and notebooks of a famous writer, he has the means to rescue his family from poverty. If he can keep it secret.

2013: Morrie is up for parole. And he's hell-bent on recovering the notebooks.

That's when retired detective Bill Hodges - who has set up a company called FINDERS KEEPERS -discovers the scheme.

FINDERS KEEPERS is spectacular suspense. It is also King writing about how literature shapes a life - for good, for bad, for ever.

Nominated for the Audio Publisher's Association Audio Award 2016 for Best Male Narrator (Will Patton).

Critic reviews

King has the popular novelist's gifts in spades - a flawless sense of pace, an ear for dialogue, an eye for the telling detail, a no-mess-no-fuss approach to characterisation (Keith Miller)
An almost constant build of momentum, growing in pace and tension until it finally explodes... manages to thrill with every page
A classic cat-and-mouse tale, this is King at his rip-roaring best
Fantastic...In part a love letter to literature, this is vintage King - jaw droppingly brutal but full of heart and humanity. Roll on the last in the trilogy
A remarkable display of storytelling. (John Dugdale)
It's expertly plotted, a series of pieces falling into place with almost audible satisfaction as the author burns towards his suitably horrific climax. (Alison Flood)
This novel is slick, seamlessly crafted, shockingly gory and packed with suspense
MR MERCEDES was a terrific thriller, and now there's a sequel. I squeak with glee. (Natalie Haynes)
FINDERS KEEPERS is a first-rate crime thriller, but it's also to King's credit that, more than 40 years into his career, he continues to experiment, and his talent, curiosity, and generous, humane spirit show no signs of flagging. (John Connolly)
Unlike John Rothstein it seems Stephen King is determined to publish everything he can write. If books such as the effortlessly exciting FINDERS KEEPERS are the result, we should all be grateful.

I really enjoyed how this book takes on from Mr Mercedes and further expands the story and the effects of the other people around the first book. Enjoyable and clear narrator cant wait for the third instalment!!

It undoubtedly helps if you've read or heard Mr Mercedes, - which I have. Bill Hodges, Holly and Jerome were such good characters that here Mr King gives us their further adventures. Will Patton's distinctive voice and subtle characterisations kept me hooked. Maybe not vintage Stephen King, but still well worth a listen.

A dark story of buried treasure

Where does Finders Keepers rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

Finders Keepers is one of my favourite Stephen King audiobooks - whilst it does not quite match the heights of 11.22.63, it is up there with Under the Dome and Mr Mercedes.

Who was your favorite character and why?

Bill Hodges, who featured for the first time in Mr Mercedes, makes a welcome re-appearance in this book. I particularly like his laconic, world weary, yet wholely humane attitude to life.

What does Will Patton bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you had only read the book?

Will Patton does an excellent job of breathing life into all of the characters. His narration of Mr Mercedes was superb and he does a similarly engrossing job of giving vivid life to the story of Finders Keepers.

Did you have an emotional reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

I found the book a compelling listen - it riveted my interest from start to finish.

Any additional comments?

If you enjoyed Mr Mercedes, you will not be disappointed by Finders Keepers.

Yet again an excellent listen

Joint 1st with Mr Mercedes

What was one of the most memorable moments of Finders Keepers?

Loved it when hodges and the gang were re introduced

Have you listened to any of Will Patton’s other performances? How does this one compare?

Yep Mr Mercedes loved the way he portrayed the characters. Was thrilled not only to find this was a follow up but also read by wp. Could slip straight into it with ease

Did you have an emotional reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

Gives you a feeling of a good "hurrah" at the end

Any additional comments?

I've said it before I thought Stephen King went rubbish and wouldn't even look at him for years. I was then persuaded to read the odd one and I did enjoy granted although still cautious. Now once again its me getting the books first. Hurrah!

I think he's finally back!
