About this listen
"You made a bargain . . .
Your soul for his—and now, you are mine."
Cate Holloway knows the unspoken rule of New Orleans: avoid the powerful Gage crime family at all costs. Of course, that was before her brother got caught in their chaos. Now Cate has no choice but to confront the dark and forbidding prince of New Orleans himself . . . and beg for her brother's life.
But Lachlan Gage is as lethal as he is beautiful . . . and the only currency he's interested in is her soul.
Because Lachlan isn't just some ruthless criminal. He's fae. And he has his own secret reasons for binding her to him.
Tricked and desperate, Cate is torn between humanity and the breathtaking Otherworld. A place filled with shadows and secrets, with members of each fae court plotting against her just as her captor's motives for trapping her become more mysterious.
And if she can't break this sinister bargain in the next thirty days, she'll be bound to the inscrutable yet infuriatingly tempting fae prince and his deadly world . . . forever.
Contains mature themes.

Well written, to install an almost almanac of the hows and whats of fae life with terms and vernacular that familiarizes the listener with arcane knowledge in a very soft way rather than getting Arcana for Dummies.
Enjoyed how the mystical and sinister is woven to intrigue and manoeuvre Kate (Hecate? the goddess of spells in ancient Greece) to learn and use her powers.
This maybe insta-love, but it is not insta-sex, so we get to enjoy how the relationship unfolds through all stages in slow slow tantalizing increments.
ENJOYABLE
Intense

Our FMC is Cate, a trauma nurse who lost her family at a young age and has been through a lot. She's a likeable character with some depth and mystery around her.
Then we have Lachlan, our fae MMC is ruler of one of the fae courts. I liked him immediately, and we soon find ourselves in a forced proximity situation. He has family members that play a key point in the plot, and i really enjoyed them and their dynamics. They do not compare to the family in FRV, however, and whilst I didn't want to compare, you can't help but do it as it the same world and a similar story/character set up.
The romance between Cate and Lachlan is super slow burn with lots of fire and tension, which I loved! Them getting together is well worth the wait. However, some things were very very predictable and easy to see through or see coming. My favourite thing was definitely the romance and Lachlan without a doubt! The end is a cliffhanger, and I didn't personally appreciate it, not a trope/direction I love in books.
Book two is already out, and I have it on Libby, but I am unsure whether to read it now or wait. I do know there will be some cross overs in the world's which I can't wait for but it's another cliff hanger, the book starts on a storyline I'm not a fan of in books and the next one is not yet published. This paragraph of my review is how I decided my rating as with FRV I consumed them and had to wait for the audio for the last book but I could not stop. I will carry on with the series, but I'm not sure when I write this.
Not as good as the previous series...
